Return to the Planet of the "Hey Euro's its that time again" Thread.

Just got back from a trip to Spain, now packing our van like madlad to get on the ferry to Estonia tomorrow morning for a roadtrip to a wedding in NL, a gig in Belgium and then a gig in Germany.

Everything involved massive pains in the ass, a lot of money and other shenanigans, but I'll elaborate on that later :embarrassed: Short version is: fuck people that cancel on dogsitting 3 days in advance, our van has pretty much a new engine and thank fuck we have good vehicle insurance :embarrassed:

I've really hurt my foot. did the male thing of hobbling about all week till the point I had to buy crutches.

Went to minor injuries after work today but was told to come back at 9 tomorrow morning as it'll be quieter.

First Saturday Old Firm game in years that I've not had a gig so can get scumbag on on the booze all day, and I'm probably going to end up watching it alone on the couch. :ack:

Euro roadtrip update.

As said before, our cheapo van had an unfortunate situation, which lead to it being a not so cheap van, but at least a very much fixed van. And it tugged us all the way to NL very comfy and happily.

Short summary: Baltic states were fun and decent roads, Poland would've been fine if some place sold paper maps and we would have let Google Maps incredible suggestions have us explore every fucking back road that according to "the algorhythm" would have been somehow faster, German roads are nice but northern Germans are still the same head-up-the-ass annoying stuck up twats they've always been and Peugeot Expert is the best van ever :embarrassed:

Did Kira enjoy it? Lola absolutely loves the beach but we're about an hour away from our nearest and Mrs JBJ gets agitated when there's other dogs around.

Kiira fucking loved it. She loves the van, sometimes when we stopped for a piss/coffee she'd just pull us back to the van. She loved being in the forests, near the beaches and whatnot. It wasn't the greatest as the timeframe is all a bit fucked up. We were in Spain, Kiira stayed over with someone, we picked her up, had 2 days at home, then rushed to NL because we have a wedding to attend. On the way back we'll make a lot more time to just chill in places we like instead of pushing at least 600km per day. She still seemed to enjoy the hell out of it and loves exploring all the new places. We were afraid it might stress her out, but she seems to enjoy it and it actually seems to help with her reactivity to stuff

Also, napping like this on the driver's shoulder while on the motorway appears to be her favourite thing in the world.

Also, the weird hammock like setup we made for her worked really well. She has her own spot. We were afraid she might get bored and jump to the front or start roaming in the back, but she just stuck to her place and roamed around there with the occasional doot to our heads every once in a while.

Proof reading a job application I'm just about to send.

It includes such jaunty content as:
The course also developed my contextual understanding of and ability to use the Morgan Report, HIGIOS 4 and the NIF Priorities and Drivers to better support colleagues and learners within my school.

I have no idea what those things are but good luck with it.

Cheers. I have a lovely 40 odd page of scribbled notes on the Morgan Report if you'd like to indulge yourself

Application is in. Time to get serious about moving up the ladder.

Planned to go back to work tomorrow, but am still wide awake. Probably the thought of going back to work is not helping me get to sleep

Got back from our road trip. It was quite amazing, the whole #vanlyfe thing was a lot more fun than expected, and our ancient little van held up wonderfully.

We also visited the shelter wherer Kiira is from. To enter back into Finland she needed some stupid pill and a stamp from a vet that she ate the pill a maximum of 5 days before entering. So we contacted the organisation through which we got her, and they told us to drop by the shelter in Lithuania, they have their own vet, and they'd gladly help us out. It was pretty heartbreaking. First of all, Kiira was NOT happy seeing the place again. She first just wanted to run back into the car, then just froze up. After a short visit to the vet, we brought her back to the van and gave her a nice chew and left her a bit to get a tour of the place. Man, it's rough. They're the only no-kill shelter in the area, but are completely overloaded. They have about 300 dogs at the moment and while we were there 2 got brought in... The stench and noise is absolutely horrifying. They work their asses off with mostly volunteers and an extremely limited budget, and they really try to give these dogs a better life (which in a lot of cases isn't that hard, many of them were taken from yards where they were beaten and chained up), but it must be such a terrifying place for them. I'm not easily unphased, but that place just made me want to bring all the poor creatures home. Sometimes there's comments that organisations like the one we got Kiira from "only do it to traffic dogs for money" and similar bullshit, but if you compare the life the dogs get in new proper homes to what they come from (and the fact that the money it costs pretty much covers the neutering/spaying, transport and admin) and nothing more (actually looked up the price of having your dog neutered/spayed at our vet here, it's 20 bucks less than what we paid for Kiira), it's very obvious how nonsensical that is. Visiting that place really convinced us that taking in a rescue was the right move and that everyone who buys a 'purebred' needs to have a good think about their choices.

But we had a great trip, slept in amazing places in forests and near old castle ruins in Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. If our van lives long enough we're definitely going to do some more trips around the Baltics.
