Day 6 of toothache nightmare. I am exhausted from lack of sleep, lack of proper meals...

Antibiotics doing a great job of getting rid of abscess, but my tooth still hurts like a mofo for long spells.
I am so tired that i will probably fall into a blissfull sleep despite the pain. I am almost at the point of having someone pull the fucking tooth out with pliers…

Why the fuck do teeth even have nerves?

Last few days of work before a week and a bit off from Friday for a family holiday. Leaving the warm and temperate lands of Somerset to head north of the wall (Hadrian's) for a week in Scotland in a log cabin with a hot tub by a loch.

@jbj @wok @Hanglow - We may get a day out in Glasgow, so any good guitar shops to visit while there please?

Guitar Guitar is always worth a visit. I don’t know Glasgow that well though, @jbj will probably know other shops

That is very much in the wrong part of town for JBJ to visit :embarrassed:

Unless marching past playing the flute :embarrassed::embarrassed:

You won't get a Miller Brown Bb in guitar guitar I'll tell you that much lad :embarrassed:

Guitar Guitar is easily the biggest range and has the fanciest stuff.

Kenny's Music was the old sound control near the train station. Pretty big and there's lots of great pubs near it. Lots of pubs near guitar guitar too but they're full of jakey Celtic fans :embarrassed:

Merchant City music is a block away from guitar guitar. I've not been in to the new shop since it moved though so no idea if it's worth a visit

Not been in for years but Jimmy Egypt's up the west end is an institution and it's surrounded by good pubs and restaurants too.

Gis a shout if you're after any other info or ideas either in town or wherever it is you're staying.

Was supposed to do a long hike this week.

It all ended a bit fucked up. First I got a call from the tech lead at the place I've been doing stream tech of a possible COVID exposure. No "close contact" (of course I could only get limited info because privacy etc) or whatever that entails, but still a recommended 10 day quarantine, so hey-ho... 10 days it is...
Hike could still happen as the plan was to leave from home and being outside and camping all the time it should be fine. We left home, hiked to the outer edge of the next city over in a day, the last KM I started to get a bit of pain in my foot. Deffo not good, but well. Put up the tent, had a good night sleep. Next day it felt fine. After 2km it was just over though. Literally had to gimp to the closest bus station and go back home. It's now 4 days later and I still can't walk properly without pretty intense pain. Gonna call the doc tomorrow.

So that's the first time I've had proper time off since Januari 2020 well spent

Crap. Get well soon, CoF. I've noticed that I'm so prone to injury at the moment it's just not funny. Guess everything's atrophied during lockdown (not that I wasn't doing anything, but obviously not using certain muscles like pre-COVID). Recently started back at kickboxing and loads of fairly tough guys are showing up with knee and wrist supports because they've injured them picking up fecking shopping bags and stuff.

Sucks man! hope you'll feel better soon!

Get well soon! I think I can relate and hate when stuff like that happens. Got a little over-enthusiastic with hiking, running and the bike during my holiday, so I ended up with a runner's knee, shin splints, a sore ankle and whatnot. I feel much better now, it's just such a shitty show-stopper, and I really hope you recover quickly!

I'm usually really resistant to injuries, both from impact like things and overuse/duration. I messed up my shoulder once when I was playing tons of tennis matches and I screwed up the cartilage in my knees when I was skateboarding a lot, but beyond that I'm really not used to get this sort of stuff. I've had some obvious injuries (like breaking a rib when I smacked into a rock while snowboarding) and stuff like that, but all other kinds of pain and strains just last a few minutes or at worst are gone the next day. This kind of random shit that just stays is quite foreign to me.

All right, tubes?

yep, weather is shite (just to get this out of the way).

Working a lot of overtime at the moment. Still waiting for my marks for my dissertation, should be next week. Started looking for jobs but not much out there at the moment

For the first time in my professional life I've had to hand a job I said I'd do over :embarrassed:

Feels bad, as I was looking forward to it, but well... Long story short, I was hired to do tech for a livestream etc for a seminar, now that the restrictions are winding down everywhere, two events I would've been part of over a year ago will happen during November. One of them is a pretty big gig in Sweden. I called the producer of the seminar and explained that if they really want me, I'm available on those days, but that the sudden changes in my schedule mean I'd probably be doing it in between all kinds of other stuff and wouldn't be able to do the job justice. I got an acquaintance of mine to replace me, everybody seems happy enough (actually my acquaintance appears to be extremely happy with the job), so all good.

I heard they're looking for truck drivers :embarrassed:

according yo Yougov, polls still show a 60% support for the Tories in the UK. WTF is wrong with people? How much more do they need to fuck up before they lose support?

Yeah it's pretty interesting. The average "man in the street" has absolutely no rational reason to vote Tory. Not that Labour does much for them, but still, if I'd have to choose between "actively making people's lives worse, because fuck everyone who wasn't born into money" or "incompetent fools that at least don't fuck me over any chance they get", it doesn't really seem like that complicated of a decision.

and it’s not like the government is very good at hiding the fact that they are lying and bumbling their way through things. I guess I am overestimating the man in the street’s ability in critical thinking.

with a new girlfriend who is Polish, i currently find myself in a nice EU bubble
