Return to the Planet of the "Hey Euro's its that time again" Thread.

Talking of snow and freezing bollocks off, I have to go to Oslo next week Wednesday to Friday. Current weather forecast has a high of -6°C and a low of -14°C.

Thermal underwear it is then.

Yeah, supposed to get really cold next week. Probably about -20 up here (about 3 and a half hours north of Oslo). :embarrassed:

I assume she refused medical help? Hope she will get better somehow

No, she's not refusing, but I doubt she's fully cooperating either. She has multiple issues to deal with; but to deal with the underlying depression issues that is the root cause of it all, she really needs counselling but that's not available to her until she deals with her drinking.

End of the day that's a vicious circle as the depression causes her to drink that then gets her more depressed and so on.

Get yourself some decent mittens. They're way warmer than gloves.

Also, -10 is not thermal underwear weather yet :embarrassed:

Huehuehue.

Well, it's not like -10 doesn't feel cold here, it's more that if you start wearing your thermals at -10, where you gonna go when it goes to -20 :embarrassed:

Fwiw -10 anywhere near the coast (definitely in Oslo btw) feels about the same as -20 up here.

That said, when it gets to about -20 here, I start considering thermals if I have to be outside for any length of time.

Here the coast is a bit more forgiving. Even though I live only a couple of kilometers from the sea it's not humid at all. Every time I get back from NL the skin on my face gets all messed up from the lack of humidity. So -10 usually feels around -10 unless there's a fierce wind. -10 here might actually feel a lot more comfortable than 0 degrees in NL :embarrassed:

Looks like Oslo is warming up a bit for my visit with only Wednesday being properly cold a with a high of -5°C and a low of -8°C.

Thursday is 0°C to -1°C, Friday is 2°C to -2°C. Positively balmy weather!

It's freezing here just now. They're saying snow, I can't see that happening but it's going to get icy.

School boy error not switching off the hot tub the other night and having to empty it yesterday :embarrassed:

That's not too bad :) Apparently my aunt and uncle in law had 85cm of snow in Lillehammer :embarrassed:

So my GP signed me off work until end feb due to stress and being generally burnt out.

Good thing is that I have a month to think about my future and what I want to do.

Good luck with that. I hope it works for you. It can work out really well to just come up with some silly idea, put your mind to it and just do it. Sounds stupid, but it's pretty much the only thing that kept me sane over the years.

Got a job interview kind of thing on Monday, a place was looking for people to teach high-school kids programming and some I/O with hardware stuff. Should be good fun, they seem like great people. Seeing as the first sentence of the email I got was "you sure have a promising background" I think my chances of getting this are pretty decent. :embarrassed: Have to see if it's a one time thing or I can work with them more often though. Would be cool, I've always enjoyed teaching people.

Yaaay, got a job.

I'm now an instructor for a place that sends out creative coding people to schools to teach. First assignment will be a Swedish-speaking school here. There's a solid outline for the course outline, but enough freedom to add stuff and leave stuff out as I see fit.

The interview was pretty hilarious. Turns out the person interviewing me did the same MA and I met her a couple of times during events. Apparently in my motivation letter I managed to write down their internal company philosophy, so the interview came down to giving me an outline of the job, what's expected of me and how much it pays followed by if you want it it's yours.

I've had worse interviews

Congrats! :thu: Please don't turn into jbj!

Anyway, speaking of jbj, might as well do a lengthy write-up what's been happening in Wok's life

With each day being off work I feel less and less inclined to go back (if they even let me). It's just not worth the stress. I have been enjoying the work itself but there has always been that nagging unhappiness with the fact that we get paid not nearly enough for the work we do, let alone enough for me to manage financially. Not in the least because of the lengthy and expensive commute to work each day.

So I have been toying with the idea of doing the taxi thing full-time until I find something better, but I need to work out finances properly before I commit to that. I have also started sending out applications for other jobs.

Meanwhile, I have had the time to generally improve my health, reduce my stress and anxiety levels, I spent more time with my daughter and (re)connecting with people.

Also started actually rehearsing with a new band, which has been a lot of fun, some new music being written as we speak. I am intending to take up (backing) vocals as well, so I have been practicing playing guitar and singing (read: screaming) at the same time.

I am also pondering trying to reconnect with the girl I had a disastrous thing with last summer, for some reason I can't get her out of my head  . And no, I am not going to stalk anyone

All right, all?

Sounds pretty positive wok. All the best.

I've done a fair bit of self-re-evaluation over the past year or so, and I think it's all been for the better. Have already started better habits, and I think my appreciation for certain things that I may have taken for granted in the past has increased too. Things still aren't 100% where I want them, but I'm in a fairly positive frame of mind these days, all things considered. I think I got really lucky with my job. I wouldn't say it's FANTASTICALLY paid, but it's just about enough to survive on, fairly low stress, and within walking distance of where I live. That last one's a real luxury.
