Quarantine fitness jam

Ended up with a day off other than stretching yesterday. Will do probably an inside workout and dog walk today. Can’t do my normal dog hike I like to do out in the sage hills as the ticks seem to be out in force right now. That will calm down as the summer continues and things get hotter and drier.

DRYHEAT!!!

Got a good run/lift 2fer in today. Trying for another 2fer tomorrow and then it's time for Friday slacking.
That'll make 4 runs and 3 lifts this week, which I think is pretty respectable

2fer'd today to finish out the week. Woop woop.
Haven't done incline bench in a while so that one kicked my ass, but running is going great.
I'm pretty much just talking to myself at this point but it helps with the motivation to tell someone you exercised. So Ima keep it up.

I started running in the Pacific Northwest, and like a lot of overly eager beginning runners, I did basically all my running at a too fast pace, because it just felt good to run fast. Decades (and various overuse injuries; I've since slowed down) later, the sidewalks of my neighborhood aren't quite the same as the pine needle-covered trails I started on, but today's tempo run in the grey drizzle this morning brought back memories of that joy in running that got me hooked in the first place. There's something about opening it up a bit in slightly inclement weather that really reminds you that you're alive..

I love that. I used to love to run on the really loamy and springy trails of the PNW with all the moisture in them. And l0ved running in a little rain.

Finally got back on the treadmill; did a mile @ 9:50, walked a quarter, another mile, and walked another quarter. Work and garden has been leaving me pretty beat, that's my excuse for the week+ break since my last run :embarrassed:

Did a 4 or 5 mile run yesterday pushing my 2yr old in the jogging stroller. Dont really know the distance cuz I made up a new route to keep the munchkin entertained.
Last night I stayed up too late watching Kids in the Hall on youtube so I slept in and didnt run this morning.
Did hit the weights this afternoon tho. Pretty much back to where I left off before the hiatus 2 weeks ago. Which means I'm getting close to bumping the weights up another 5 lbs but not quiiiiiite there yet. I keep getting to this point and then falling off the workout wagon for a week or so. I really need to stay focused for a few weeks and break through.

I got my book e out and have been doing 30-40 minute rides. Any longer and my ass starts going numb--hopefully just need to build up endurance. I wish I had bought a trailer hitch bike rack before lockdown, because I'm stuck biking the trail in my neighborhood. I live on a brutal hill, so coming home is always a good workout, but it's a little boring.

Speaking of rain, today I did 15 miles in a full on downpour. Possibly the wettest run I've ever had; both fingers and toes were fully pruned at the end

(also hella fun!)

I don't know about running in the rain but I HATE riding in the rain. Probably because I ride on roads and between the decrease in safety (sliding and stopping) and the road grime it's not so much fun. Probably trails would be better cause it's just dirt but I've had to throw away socks and shirts because they have so much black crap on them from getting caught in the rain on the way home.

I was raised where NOT running or riding in the rain was not an option. So we just dealt with it, and sometimes I take a stubborn pride in enjoying it.

Once I moved to Idaho, I learned that here, riding trails in active rain is a no no as any ruts or tracks made tend to later harden into ruts, or other trail damage. People did in Washington, as the trails often never fully were dry or at least very dry, and that was not really an issue. Also, if you didn’t ride in the rain, you didn’t ride. Different weather, different geography, etc.

My last really rainy ride, in Tacoma last year.

Cracked out chest and back again yesterday and managed to up my reps for every move so it's obviously working. Definitely feel more toned torso and chest wise too so that's good.

Can't help but wonder where I'd be fitness wise if I hadn't got lazy - I could used to crack out 20-30 quality chin ups and 50+ press ups no bother. Oh well.

Just need my wife to stop buying snacks for the house and cut back on the wine and beer and I'll be in triathlon shape once we come out of lockdown

Ended up with a real big hemorrhoid yesterday, so gonna have to give the bikes a break for a few days to let things calm down. Dang. Did a lunch wildflower hike with my daughter yesterday for her birthday. Strength and core today.

I'm not much of a biker, but I feel the same way about riding in the rain (or in snow, sleet, etc). I think it's mostly the difference in speed between running and biking that makes weather conditions that are fun in a slightly masochistic way while running seriously unfun while biking.

Got a 2fer in today. Run and lifting both went well, and I upped the weights on a few things. Still managed to get 8 or 9 reps in so that's really cool. Gonna bump the rest of the exercises up next week.

Might be a 3fer today. I'm supposed to go pick up some pretty nice polymer concrete patio furniture but it depends on availability of my brother in law to assist. TBD.

Today was landfill hill repeats. All the rain we've been getting made the trails up the hill suuuuper muddy, which was awesome, and also meant there I didn't see a single other person out there, which was great.
