notice they do not mention what happened immediately after WWII.....the allies BLEW UP the nazi eagle and swastika on the reichstag bldg.
or what happened after the wall came down in berlin........communist monuments were destroyed. and in the former ussr where they dropped communist symbols.
and in Iraq, when saddam was defeated and hanged. they bulldozed his statue and peed on it.

they don't mention that shit, because that's what's SUPPOSED to be done when tyanny and fascism and dictators are defeated. those monuments should have never gone up in the first place.

Chaffetz just announced his resignation effective June 30. Weird. I wonder what that is about.

Rumors are that he's either going to Fox News or an affair is about to hit the news. Or maybe he's just decided that this shitshow isn't worth the stress and he'd rather go back to Utah.

I could write a long essay with pictures and links to all sorts of science and facts concerning what the EPA meant to my home town of Tacoma. Full of Superfund sites, the place was an absolute shithole, kinda like Cornell described when he used mining as a metaphor for the grunge movement. ASARCO had gone bankrupt and was hiding from the huge environmental costs of their decades of devastation, the waterways out of commencement bay were full of dioxins and pulp mill refuse, etc.

What a bunch of assholes. I want someone to hold their heads back and force their mouths open so I can shit down their throats.

GOP cranks in the house introducing lost cause legislation to abolish the EPA is like Elizabeth Warren’s anti-bank bills. Red meat for the base with no hope of actually passing. I guess this might pass in the house, but it’s not going to survive in the senate. The GOP has to tread carefully with repealing environmental legislation. If they piss off enough hunters they’re going to start losing gun voters.

I've never understood the hatred for the EPA and "Treehuggers" among the supporters of the GOP. They want to fish but they throw a fit if some company can't dump their waste in the river (several times I've seen do not eat orders on fish because they're filled with toxins from pollution). They want to hunt ducks and geese but they want companies to be able to fill in the wetlands. They want to hunt deer but they want lumber companies to be able to clear cut the forests. Why can't they see the EPA is the best friend the outdoors person has? Without the EPA you might as well put those shotguns, rifles and fishing poles in a museum because you'll never need them again.

I concur. I lived in DC for five years and I've known dozens of wonks and techies whose IQs are probably well over 140. Their whites are always gray because none of them can understand why they need to separate their laundry and use cold water for the darks.

As an engineer, I'll let you in on a little secret: we understand, we just don't care. The same goes for social interactions.

I don't know many hunters or fisherpersons IRL who actually advocate abolishing the EPA and those who do either have adopted a pretty staunch tea party or libertarian perspective and there's still a lot of NIMBY to it. Many sportsman, even politically conservative ones, actually do not support broad cuts to environmental protection regulations (again, at least in their backyard). Many know what pollution does to the fish in the rivers because they've caught fish with cancerous tumors or genetic defects, the need for supplemental stocks, and consumption & catch limits. Many know what development does to wildlife habitat because they have to drive 2 or more hours to go hunting when they used to be able to hunt close to home. They have seen the changes in their gear over the years to be more environmentally friendly. They have paid more in licensing fees and access fees to protect the areas they use. They have experienced first hand the impact of cleaner water and protected habitats. Some of them are true stewards of the land and water they use and know more about protecting the environment than you'd think. Some otoh don't.
