with the repeal of "the Fairness Doctrine" in the late 80's, the 'brainwashing' really began on a national scale with Limbaugh's radio show. and since then, there have been waves of one sided, often deceitful, and outright untruthful radio and tv shows keeping up the brainwashing.

Absolutely, but the fact that the listeners/viewers don't even think to question the pabulum they're being fed. The lack of interest in accurate information...it's is still so frightening.

The equivalent on the liberal side would be Democratic politicians ignoring and the liberal voters denying that John Edwards had an affair and a child with a women while running for President as his wife was literally dying of cancer. As crazy as that sounds, that's what happened with Trump. He's been accused of sexual assault, settled claims out of court for Trump university being a sham, he's admitted to sexual assault, he lacks anything close to a moral compass (he does have an amoral compass though), he has been constantly caught in lies...the list is horribly long, if not endless. But the GOP turn refuses to truly acknowledge or call him out on it and his supporters are completely okay.

Someone pointed out yesterday, Ana Navarro even agrees that the GOP would have already started impeachment proceedings if Hillary were President and had made the same poor decisions that Trump has made to date. In reality, they would have been calling for her head even sooner. They are spineless weasels putting their shitty party and its agenda before the literal health and well-being of our nation.

I've read two theories on this. We either get President Pence, or we get President Hatch. I'm not sure which is worse.

The next couple of years are going to be shit, no matter what. I'd still love to see Trump humiliated, though. He would almost certainly be a top candidate for worst president ever, were he removed from office in his first year. He'd love that.

IDK. The real question is how all of this will influence the 2018 and 2020 elections. Will it motivate liberals, or will there be intense conservative backlash since they would view it as a witch hunt against their hero.

well, one difference is that one is 57 and the other 83.
one is an extremist moron.....err....mormon christofascist and the other is an extremist catholic christofascist.....so there ARE some differences.
both would be beyond terrible and 10 times worse than cheeto.

I think I might get the increase in voting percentage I've been talking about, as both sides would be motivated. However, I also think that higher voter turnout favors Democrats. My worry is that Trump continues to step in it over the next two weeks, and impeachment starts sooner rather than later in the '18 election cycle. Later would be better for a higher Democrat turnout.

As to pabulum, it's an interesting word. Here's Webster's take:

pabulum
noun pab·u·lum \ˈpa-byə-ləm\

Popularity: Bottom 50% of words Seems super appropriate given the unfortunate focus of this thread...

Definition of pabulum
  1. food; especially : a suspension or solution of nutrients in a state suitable for absorption Roots deliver pabulum to the plant.

  2. intellectual sustenance pabulum for consideration and reflection

  3. something (such as writing or speech) that is insipid, simplistic, or bland wrote pabulum that was intended to offend no one

I love the seemingly contradictory second and third definitions. Trump supporters and the GOP wouldn't argue with the second definition while claiming the third definition is what the credible press feeds to liberal masses. The level of the mass delusion is staggering. Yet it doesn't quite fit either, because offense it intended by the GOP perspective. The seek to incite action against false enemies, against policies and laws that clearly provide more benefit than harm while seeking to replace them with policies and laws that clearly do harm (often stripping existing benefits). They've taken a polemic stance against anything that doesn't benefit business interests. It is the most clear and transparent thing the party has done since stonewalling the Democrats and President Obama's attempts get any legislation through either house or passed since 2010.

The last thing we need is more "help" from the Russians...even if it would help get Trump out of office. When I wear my tinfoil hat I can't help but feel that it's an attempt by Putin to infiltrate and fucked with our government even more than he already has. Putin's a bad man, not to be trusted.

did i miss anything?

flynn takes money from russia and fails to disclose it along with failing to disclose his meetings with them
obama tells trump not to hire flynn but he hires him anyways
yates tells trump that flynn is compromised and has lied to pence
yates is fired by trump
flynn is not fired for weeks until it was made public
trump asks comey to drop investigation into flynn
trump fires comey
trump has russians into oval office and gives them code word clearance intel

the fact that people still support him is beyond reason.

There's no reasoning with them at this point. I was watching a town hall with Bernie Sanders and John Kasich on CNN last night and a Trump supporter framed his question to try to pin the blame for all this on Obama.

I thought it was only used in reference to anal dildos. :embarrassed:

ok...first, the folks who listen to/watch the extremist right shows don't question any of it because it is WHAT they want to hear. those shows are supporting their nut ball view of the world, and so the wacko talking heads just keep giving them what they want. and now those people's views are so skewed that they think the world is flat, again.

second, "they" aren't spineless weasels, "they" are doing EXACTLY what they've had planned for decades, and they finally control the gov't enough to be able to accomplish that goal.

just sayin'

President Pence. Much like Tony Curtis in The Great Race pie-fight scene, Pence has managed to remain unsullied by the barrage surrounding him. I'll say it again: Pence being distanced from Trump and company is no accident.

Besides, if shit hits the fan, Trump will resign and Pence will pardon him ala Nixon and Ford.

I agree. But I always like to read the conspiracy theories. They run from somewhat plausible to tin foil hat.

My point is that I wanted to continue to believe in John Edwards. His actions as an an attorney and as a politicians were things I generally supported. His actions as s human, however, were shit. I wanted Obama to accomplish more. I wanted Trump to lose and lose badly. I want chocolate to be healthy. I want to be told I'm handsome and be handed money. These are things I'd love to hear, but I'm not willing to deny truth and reality. Doing that is the act of simpletons and morons...in the case of Trump supporters these asshats are dangerous.

I disagree with your second point. Yes, they wanted power, but they clearly didn't take Trump seriously. They clearly didn't want him as their candidate. Like the left, they thought he'd self destruct, that as he kept more outlandish hateful diatribes that the people would turn and run, not walk, away from him to a someone like Jeb. As I've mentioned, the pundits were on tv, radio, and writing about how the GOP was looking towards the future through the summer and into October to figure out how to "right" the ship. They had no faith in Trump's ability to win and generally didn't support the platform on which he ran. What they did do, however, was rally behind him following the upset. These worthless dipshits compromised just about everything they've claim to stand for to support the man the ran under their party and won the White House. Again, party before nation...the shit that almost destroyed the U.S. before it reached its first quarter century.

The system isn't the issue, it's the players. Right now, as with the past few decades, the GOP players aren't playing for a national victory, they are playing for a perceived GOP victory. They haven't even tried to run on a platform of progress and improvement. It's all about undoing the work of the Democrats and demonizing any policy or program that doesn't support the failed theory of trickle down economics. As always, fuck them and their supporters.
