Is it really?

It's all about perspective. For those that supported Obama it was most awesome that black voter registration and voting increased significantly. For those clear-headed enough to see through Trump, the large amounts of registered voters that haven't voted in years that decided to support him and the large number of people that registered just to support and vote for him, increased numbers fucking suuuuuuucked.

But you know this.

It's my vote. How is that not personal?

The dilution of the voting base is a good thing. The more people that participate, the better.

They were not personal attacks. You stated your decision to vote for someone whos' platform you did not agree with with the stated hope that their party get federal election funding, and others chimed in their opinion that you were pissing away your vote. Thats a difference of opinion not an attack.

Yes.

80 million voters stayed home this year, and the percentage of registered voters who participated decreased from the last two Presidential
elections. It wasn't a historic low, but the trend is going in the wrong direction.

We agree that people can absolutely have dissenting opinions and discussions. That's not what happened in this election. Not here, and not elsewhere on the internet.

More people voted in 2016 than 2012, yet a lower percentage of registered voters voted. Numbers can be funny sometimes.

I feel sorry for the coal miners who've bought the Republican's "war on coal" scam hook, line, and sinker.

For those of you not in an area where coal is big, what has happened is that the coal industry is in the toilet because of cheap natural gas (which is cheap because of fracking). The Republicans have told coal miners that coal is expensive to burn because Obama hates coal and is using excessive regulation and an out of control EPA to kill coal. They promised the coal miners that they'd remove regulation and gut the EPA which will reduce the cost of using coal.

What they didn't tell them is that without regulation and an EPA, fracking will become even more common, and will drive the price of natural gas down even more than the cost of coal will drop. The net result will be the even faster demise of coal.

In fact, expect to see federal law enacted soon to prohibit states and cities from regulating fracking.

Worse, dirt cheap natural gas will destroy what little progress solar and wind have made in this country.

I used to work for a company involved in the industry and their internal estimates back in 2009-2010 were a boom in shale gas wells & production into 2017 then a decline due to a number of factors including state taxation, regulation & environmental mitigation costs. What they didn't foresee the bottom dropping out of the price of oil and staying there for a good long time, effectively squeezing the market alternatives & accelerating that decline in bringing new wells online. By the time states start thinking about dipping into more shale gas, there might be enough concerns over the impacts to be a limiting factor....then again the new 'science' of the White House & EPA at that point might not care.

Crap...I'm back.

Ta ta all...yeah, right...

... So huge solar projects in China, India, and Germany will drive the cost of PV solar below natural gas. And all those fossil fuel workers will be angry and out of work again.

Never going to happen in our lifetimes. If the Republicans stay in power for eight (or maybe even four), fracking will be enshrined, natural gas will become dirt cheap, and all the power plants will convert to it. Hell, we may even see a big surge of compressed natural gas vehicles hit the road. The Republicans would be happy to use our tax dollars to subsidize CNG fueling stations all over the country so that the energy companies can sell us their cheap natural gas (at insane profit levels, of course).

If there is one thing Republicans have proven over and over, it is that they only care about "states rights" when the states are fighting against some progressive idea. When it comes to Republican interests, they'll smack the states down in a heartbeat.
Take education and birth control/abortion and marriage equality and weed for examples. Also wages. And within states, we have those issues (particularly regarding min. wage and marijuana) as well. Doesn't mean it won't get challenged as Howie says.
