I know now that 'Beaner' is a derogatory term for Mexican, but I had never heard that term until the controversy over the Beaner Coffee Shop name. Seriously. I guess it's not used here in the mid-west, at least not widespread usage.

I don't think many of us white people here thought anything about the name 'Beaner' for a coffee shop. After all, coffee comes from beans, hence 'Beaner'.

I'm only about an hour from you, and it was always a joke that a business could be so tone deaf.

Alot of my co-workers like coffee/go to Biggby's & Starbucks, and most of them were like "Why is Beaner's changing their name?"

Like I said, I guess we associated Beaner with coffee bean, not a racial slur. But then again most of my co-workers, me included, didn't grow up around the hispanic community.

One of my best friends from my Air Force days was of Mexican heritage. He was born in the States (McAllen/Edinburgh, TX area) but his parents were both immigrants from Mexico. And the 'Beaner' name controversy was the first time I'd ever heard the word used as a derogatory term.

Guys...I just opened a new business...Happy Endings Funeral Parlor. I wish someone had told me about Google before I put up the sign.

Joe Manchin

Interesting choice. Popular guy back home. Plays well with others. However his pro life and pro gun stance would probably cost more democrats than he'd gain in undecideds. But then, maybe not. Maybe this is exactly what the Democratic party needs - swoop in on the middle ground that the Republicans are abandoning.

Interesting. I think I first heard that word in the 70's on the west coast. as you say, it is a big country, and slang is not used universally.

“We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir,” he said. “But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values.”

That's pretty lame. Straight out of the queensberry rules of DESTROYING people by Stewart et al.

Drop the sir and the last sentence. Replace it with chanting "Get him out!"

Interesting question: who should the Democrats run in 2020?

If Trump does decently well, he'll have a huge advantage going into 2020, and the Democrats won't run their starter. But, assuming that Trump is not popular in 2020, who will be the Democratic candidates?

Clinton is out. Losing candidates have never tried a second time because of all the existing negativity. Although, I'll be the first to admit that this has been an extremely unusual election, and the fact that she looks to have won the popular vote by perhaps 2 million votes may change that equation. On the other hand, she'll be older than any other candidate to have ever run, except for Trump himself.

Sanders will be too old as well.

Al Gore? Interesting possibility. He'll be older than any previous candidate at 72, but younger than Trump. He had no serious skeletons in his last run, and as far as I know, he's not picked up any new ones. He's boring, but well liked, and he did try to warn us about climate change. On the other hand, he made a lot of short term warnings that haven't played out.

Elizabeth Warren? Would the party try another woman?

Andrew Cuomo? Al Frankin? Jon Stewart? (Why not?)

As to Gore, Republican opposition would point to his divorce as an issue. It doesn't matter that Trump had three, he's on their "side".

Gore and Warren will also be attacked for being too old.

Martin O'Malley and Mark Warner are solid choices as far as the issues are concerned, and now that Hillary's basically out of the running for 2020, Warner could have a real shot. Tim Kaine's good choice too, but probably not dynamic enough for the troops to rally around. Cuomo's got some issues though.

Maybe Anthony Weiner...if you can grab pussies it doesn't seem to me that dick pics should be a big deal. Right?

Even better:

I really have to make a point of looking these things up a couple of times because reality resembles satire so closely these days it is hard to tell them apart sometimes
