I firmly believe that more participation will make way for better candidates. When only the zealots vote, only the zealots will run.

I think this depends on the type of participation.

As more people strive to educate themselves on the issues and have rational discussions, I think that helps.

Sadly, I think the level of involvement for most voters is to have one or two things they really care about and to vote against the "D" or "R" that goes against their feelings about their hot button issues.

I am not going to say who I voted for, but I turned 18 in October, 1980, and voted in my first election that year. I vote every year after trying to become informed. To see the reality TV show this year is disheartening, but there are other things that enthuse me. My views have changed over the years for sure, and it has always been hard to find one candidate to like. I just need to back out of the reality tv show online for a while, and seek out my information, rather than be hit over the head with it.

Another thing that kinda sucks is that living in Idaho, my vote for national elections rarely counts for much of anything. But I still believe in casting it.

What is your strategy for doing that? I do enjoy staying connected to old friends and seeing music stuff and the like. But, even with my own party (though I truly consider myself independent), I am tired of the bombardment. All I know to do is to turn off particular organizations and unfollow certain friends.
I just hide them from the drop down top right of the post. That way no unfriending or unfollowing needed unless I decide to. FB catches up on the trend that you want to see less.

Actually, living in a less populated state, your vote counts for far more than mine.

Again, not saying who I am likely to vote for, but it depends on which way you want your state to go. Most often, it feels a bit like falling on my sword here.

I don't believe in voting for the candidate "that can win". I always vote my conscience and have no trouble voting for a third party. But your vote in the Electoral College holds much more weight than mine simply because of how the delegates are distributed.

and then after everybody votes, the electoral college will decide who is president, even if it's not the one who had the most votes. it HAS happened.
