Yet despite the constant bombardment and inescapable coverage, despite the abysmal approval ratings...

Only a handful of people can be arsed to vote.

You're a fickle bitch America.

More people vote for the American Idol than the American President, which bugs me. I have not missed a major election since I was first eligible to vote in 1972. I always tell my students that I don't care who they vote for, but they need to vote.

I hide anything political on FB. It has cut down what some of that stupid crap. I don't see as much now and hide less politico crap. I don't understand people who are into it. Maybe it is like a sport.

An ill informed, disengaged electorate is exactly why we have this situation. Unfortunately, it will not be a wake up call. Instead it will only further disenchant voters and power will continue to consolidate at the top. This country is merely getting what it has asked for.

I suggest that if more people engaged in the process, we would get better choices, rather than those who pander to the extremes. It may take a couple of cycles, but it would happen.

i honestly believe that the media will (for the forseeable future) drive all of it, no matter WHAT the people want.
that's another major failure of our system.

The media drives only when we let it. It will take the majority of the people getting involved to take the wheel back, but it can be done. After all, the media plays a large role in getting people tho think their vote doesn't count.

I began voting at a time when may of us distrusted the government, and continued during a time when we were given good reason to do so. I still knew that giving up my vote is giving power to the system.

I find the political discussion on facebook to be insightful, thought provoking & persuasive. I've changed several of my long held opinions and now support new candidates as a result.

....said no one, ever.

What is your strategy for doing that? I do enjoy staying connected to old friends and seeing music stuff and the like. But, even with my own party (though I truly consider myself independent), I am tired of the bombardment. All I know to do is to turn off particular organizations and unfollow certain friends.

The media just gives us what we (collective we, obviously, not necessary you or I) want

This probably won't be a popular statement, but I'll just say it. I don't think everybody should have the right to vote.

The problem is that better people don’t want to run. People who have real charisma and intelligence and leadership skill and common decency just stick to business because good people don’t want to get bogged down in the gaping asshole that is American politics. I’d love to vote for someone like Mark Zuckerberg or Neil Degrasse Tyson, but they’re not going to dirty themselves by running for congress.

Citizens!

Unite!

Nothing changes for the better until there is real campaign finance reform. Amongst other things.

I was 1 the first time you voted

It's the longest running comedy tour and it keeps getting more ridiculous. Both sides are exposing the process for the farce that it is. Hilarity will continue to ensue. Stay tuned.

It would be funny if it were some kind of sitcom. Knowing that one of these folks is going to be president is a little scary.
