OK, I'm just going to say it...

Mark, Someone mentioned that perhaps shitstorms could be moved to another forum area - I'll add to that idea. I doubt vBulletin can do this, but here's an idea:

Have a forum area called "Time-out". Mods could move shitstorm threads to that forum - and here's the neat trick - the only people who could see the thread are the people posting in it before the move. This way, the original participants could fling poo at each other to their hearts' content, and no one else would be subject to it.

An option to this would be to lock the participants to posting in *only* that one thread so long as they continue posting there. No posting allowed in other threads until, say, 48 hours after their last post in the shitstorm thread. Sort of a self-imposed banning.

I am not saying that idea is bad, but we are all adults here and should treat each other with respect. Mark and the other mods don't get paid to mod this place (if they do, sign me up, I could use the cash and would love the power to ban  ) so it sounds like a pain in the ass for them to babysit folks who shouldn't need babysitting.

I think all of you secretly love these things. I mean, look at this thread. 4 pages and counting. I, for one, love shitstorms. I get to pick sides, be snarky, change sides, be snarkier, watch people melt down. And then when it's over I can just go to Deadspin and read a couple articles.

It can't be homogenized milk all the time. Sometimes you need a little bourbon.

If you go back and look at how that thread turned out, you'll see that I bit my tongue until OGG threw out his "I just sent an email to my industry contacts to do you professional damage" email on GJ. That was crossing a huge line, and hiding between the shield of GJ just doesn't cut it -

Yeah, seriously.

It has its place. With certain people. A place one can leave when theyre tired of it.

We used to all be friends here, nobody had a DESIRE to launch attacks. Sure, we gave each other shit but in such a different manner. Nobody had to say "play nice kids" because the kids WANTED to play nice here. I used to be comfortable talking freely here because it was among friends, not a crowd that was just waiting to jump on anything they thought might get a laugh. I cant speak for anyone else, but no, I DONT love it. Not here.

Love you, Chihli, and I've said over and over again that I wish you posted more frequently.

Bur, while posts like these may well be dead-accurate, I'm not sure how they really help matters, either. I mean, we'd all love an easy fix. "Why can't we all just get along?" has been the status quo for a while now, and resentments seem to keep boiling up in one place or another.

Wasnt really meant that way. I simply wanted to respond to the idea that we WANTED these little feuds.

I don't think we want the feuds. It's seemed to me for a while, though, that we try to avoid conflict so much that just let things rub us the wrong way, bite our tongues, and move on, repeat, frequently enough that feuds become inevitable. I've had a couple of experiences where people become pissed off at me and I really have no idea why, and I've seen the same thing happen with others. Sending a PM or otherwise making an effort could definitely go a long way towards nipping things in the bud.

I guess I don't see the drastic evolution of this forum, save the odd thread here and there which is bound to happen as the community grows.

I don't know, for all the talk of there being a bunch of drama and horrible disruptions in the force, it just seems like there's a small handful of people that don't get along. Is it really that bad? This forum seems ridiculously chill like 98% of the time.

Yep, they are somewhat rare and only few of those are truly bloody and brutal.

Too bad the pot keeps getting stirred, even today.

Serious question: if we all agree to stop talking about the issues that've been raised in this thread right now, will those problems go away?
