Northeasterners: What say you of this Mother of all Storms approaching?

We still have power, but lots of the surrounding areas are out.

Snow seems to be done. It turned to snow last night and warmed up to the upper 30s overnight, melting off most of the accumulation.

On the news this morning they reported that about 25 people and four bucket trucks left today from Denver to Charleston to help out with all the downed power lines.

subways starting to come on line tomorrow. nothing south of 34th st, and no service from Brooklyn into Manhattan. trains will run to Atlantic Center, and then there will be busses running over the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges from there. which will be a huge clusterfuck, but a necessary one. but i'll be able to from Queens to the Bronx tomorrow.

Metro North should start coming into Grand Central by Friday. No word on the LIRR yet.

Will any of that get you to work? NYC geography is a big mystery to me. Someday I will visit. Maybe even run the NYC Marathon in 2014.

Speaking of which - that is scheduled for this Sunday. Any way that goes as scheduled? I have no idea what part of the city it runs around.

yeah, i'll be able to get to work. i take the trains from Queens to 59th St, and then travel north to the Bronx on the green line. the tunnel into the Bronx is fine, so i'll get there ok.

This is pretty cool....

I have been a fan of singer/songwriter Al Stewart since the mid-70s. He had a concert scheduled in NYC tonight at a place called City Winery. Apparently they have no power. So Al is doing the show sans power and by candlelight. Since he tours with one other guy as an acoustic duo it should work really well.

That does sound really nice. I rather like his stuff. Have you ever seen his Year of the Cat video with Tori Amos on piano?

Yes I have....

Before Tori released her first CD she did studio work with Al and they even wrote a song together...
