NO SPOILERS: I am about to see teh Star War

HAHAHA...no. There will be Star Wars until we’re all dead. I mean, baby Yoda is currently everything.

Disney is gonna Disney this shit forever. Everything is a IP and fandoms and neverending content generation. We’re in culture hell.

Yeah. This only ends when it stops making billions of dollars every year. And that just isn’t going to happen, because people would rather spend $20 to see a bad ‘Chapter XII’ than a good one-off.

Plus plot-heavy talk-heavy grown-up movies don’t do all that well in most foreign markets, historically. Or in domestic markets, recently.

I'm not sure what this films IQ is, but my four and a half year old son gave his Chewie Happy Meal toy two thumbs up. It lights up too! I like the rad box it came in.

The responses I have heard from some people about the Scorcese "The Irishman" movie supports this statement.

I think plot-heavy, talky stuff does OK - on streaming services. I don't think it's the properties that have shifted as much as the venue experiences.

Nowadays, you shell out $15-20 for something immersive (loud, visually dazzling, etc.). The whole "sitting in the dark with strangers" seems to have gone away with 70" home screens.

Good part of that is not having to deal with schmucks at theaters.

Bad part is that streaming service managers become our new cultural curators.

Am I the only person who enjoys going to the movies/rock shows/public spaces where people do things communally?

Being out and about with one’s fellow humans in shared spaces is invigorating and helps keep loneliness/alienation at bay. It keeps your mind engaged and provides opportunity for observation and people watching.

It seems the Internet has encouraged people to be performative introverts and sourpuss cranks who luxuriate in their bunkers without disruption or mild social discomfort.

Watching a movie at home—even a boring talky movie where nothing blows up and without any Batman cameos—never seems a meaningful as committing yourself to watching it in a dark room full of strangers.

No, you are not. But that does make us 'old.' (Sorry, Boomer) I recall the pre-internet era when cultural events were seen as opportunities to encounter and bond with like-minded individuals.

The loss of this has IMO caused enormous damage to our society.

Problem is that Netflix’s model is not financially sustainable. They can’t afford to be making movies with budgets like The Irishman. Something’s gotta give, just wait and see.

I really dug it. You have to suspend your disbelief completely when it comes to the Star Wars Saga. Overanalyzing it will ruin the experience.

Sure, it could have been better, should have had more character development etc, but they crammed 20 gallons of shit into a 10 gallon hat with a running time of 2:22. It took some gregarious liberties for sure, but that is textbook SW.

It had very much the same "let's all come together as a team and go storm the castle" build up as Jedi (VI). Just as The Last Jedi had an arch much like Empire. It stayed true to formula for better or worse.

Anyway, I think it wrapped up the saga pretty well.

It sucked. And I liked the last jedi, rogue one, and all the other disney sw films. But this one was a turd.

Wait a mother fucking minute....

You liked Last Jedi..... but hated this one?? ??? ??

This one was a bit of a mess... but compared to the steaming turd sandwich that was Last Jedi??

I can confidently say that my personal Star Wars Ranking goes:

1. Ep V - Empire Strikes Back
2. Ep IV - Star Wars (New Hope if you Must)
3. Ep IV prequel - Rogue One

4, 5, 6 (depending on my mood)
Ep III - Revenge of the Sith
Ep VII - Force Awakens
Ep IV prequel - Solo

7 - Ep VI - Return of the Jedi
8 - Ep IX - Rise of Skywalker

These I only watch for completions sake:

9 - Ep 1 - Phantom Menace
10 - Ep II - Attack of the Clones

11 - Why? - Ep VIII - The Last Mary Poppins Jedi pointless running out of gas but we have time to send some people to a casino planet to fuck around while we "chase" in slow motion (don't they have hyperspeed?) oh wait we do have hyperspeed... BOOM... If this was a thing, why weren't we hyperspeeding ships through the center of the Deathstar to blow it up? Oh because this movie make absofuckinglutely zero sense and should be flushed from the series.

Actually... the movie spent an hour trying to unfuck the series from the previous shitstorm of a movie.... then a half hour cramming in the plot points that were supposed to be the first hour but they didn't have time because of .... you know... the stupid previous fuck movie... and then >quick breath< a last half hour that was actually enjoyable but kinda convoluted hurry up we have to wrap up these three movies.

BTW... Rey.... I have something to tell you....

Rey... I have something I need to tell you...

... ???

...

Honestly, I could probably make a super-cut of all of the Rey-Kylo stuff from VII, VIII, and IX and just enough other clips for it all to make sense, and probably have ONE kick ass 3 hour movie.
