NFL 2017-18 Thread

@sunvalleylaw , what is your opinion of our latest acquisition? Surprised Seattle didn't counter when they knew he might stay in the division and face him 2x/year.

Also, you up to revive our bet this season? I'm feeling kinda optimistic.

It will be interesting for sure. He knows the Seahawks, they know him. I bet he will be a tough competitor as always. But though I always admired his play, I felt he needed to go so that things could be improved on the front line. You used to loathe him. What do you think about it/him now??

I can go back to the betting thing if you want this next year. Sure!

Local take on the signing that might interest you WestCoasters. Ben Volin is the Globe's chief football writer.

There was sports talk radio chatter about the Pat's making a run at Sherman with an incentive based contract.
I wish him the best. Not going to second guess him or any of that.

Generally, though, I think it is a good idea to have representation for things like this. Those are big numbers to be talking about, and representing one's self is not always that great an idea, even for smaller things.

New Orleans looks to have done a good job signing some very good players and look to be in good shape to make a run at it with Minnesota.

Brees was offered more money elsewhere but took the hometown discount. Ya gotta like that.

re; Sherman
Yeah, I didn't like his mouth but respected his talent. Nobody threw to his side for a reason. I welcome him to the red/gold despite 'hating' him for years. It's a game after all. I hope he tones down the mouthy shit, because IMO it detracts from the game. Sure, trash talk is part of it, but he took it to a new level. I'm just glad Crabtree is gone, as that would have not been a good clubhouse mix.

The bet is on.....

They gotsta get PAID!

DAnny Amendola, Dion Lewis, Malcolm Butler....

And Nate Solder.

I think the players have seen the light. Belichick is more about being right than winning big football games, so why stay for a hometown discount if the winning ain't happening.

Kilgore going to the dolphins surprised me. But the Baelke purge is nearly complete. Anyone looking for a deal on a free safety? Reid is likely available.

The last SuperBowl was there to be won, and BB had Malcolm Butler, starter for the whole season, sitting it out. For still unexplained reasons. It's not like the guys he had in we're stopping the Eagles.

If you're selling the Patriot's Way, what exactly does that mean now?

Overblown and silly, not to mention factually inaccurate. Belichick's record is mathematically straightforward and disagrees with your opinion.

How is it factually inaccurate?

Butler did not play, coaches decision. The Pats were ahead in the 4th quarter of the SB. The Patriots defense could not get off the field. Butler's benching still has not been explained (except in the lame 'we played the players we thought would win' argument, which was wholly exposed by the product on the field.)

There's tension in Foxborough between the coach, owner, and QB. ( I can't imagine Kraft was happy to watch the Eagles go up and down the field while Butler stood on the sidelines)

My position is that perhaps more than the fans are unhappy with the coaches decision. Four key starters have left for greener pastures. It's certainly not going to please the QB to have 3 key offensive starters walk out the door.

The Patriots selling point has been take less money to play on a team that wins championships. Yes, lotsa championships. But how hard was BB trying, if he didn't at least try Butler? To see if maybe he would be more effective than the players on the field. Pats fandom usually accepts BB at his word (In Bill We Trust), but the decisions in the last SB are hard to get over.

EDIT: lest I forget - Brady is making noise about 'being appreciated' (this from the master of the non-controversial statement) and Gronkowski is threatening to retire to be a movie star or preofessional wrestler.

My contention - perhaps the bloom is off the Belichick rose. The players know.

The bloom has been coming off the Belichick rose since 2004, according to illogic haters.

I get that you wish for the team's dominance to end, but they just made three of four Super Bowls.

Dan, have you been following this thread?

No hater here, just the opposite. A card-carrying member of Patriots Nation.

I'm unhappy that it appears things are unraveling in Foxborough.

Patriots: "Butler was benched because he was sick this week, and had a bad week at practice."

Butler: "They gave up on me."

He was inconsistent all year, so having a tough week is not out of the question. He's not contradictedthe claim he wasn't performing on the practice field, in fact, his few public statements seem to support it.

All the Patriots' SB appearances come down to a play or two, their tight fiscal decisions mean they keep getting more shots at wins.

he may have been inconsistent, but he still could have better than the what was on the field. but we'll never know. the decision had been made.

remember, he was the undrafted rookie who sussed out the Seahawks pass play and won them a Super Bowl.
