New Yamaha RevStar line

The only thing I don't like so far is the 13.75 inch fretboard radius. Too flat.
You can get lower action sometimes with a flatter fretboard. I own a couple of guitars that I could lower the action even a bit more if some of the thinner strings didn't fret out while bending them (12" radius).

I figure there really isn't much difference between a 12" and a 13.75" though.

The only guitar I own that isn't a 12" is my Steinberger, which has a 16" radius, and I think it's pretty comfortable :embarrassed:

Face it, now that everybody has jumped on the bandwagon, it longer interests you, so now you have to be contrary.

Fuck these guitars

Not really. Maybe if the top of the line model came in the color I want, I'd go after it. It doesn't so whatever.

But thanks for playing. :)

Now here comes the internet denial

I really like the way the 502 sounded - seems to get that same richness a Jazzmaster gets from the sympathetic sounds from all the string length behind the bridge. Looks are great, and I can really get into a flat radius, so ....

It will be mine. Oh, yes, it will be mine.

Not to thread derail, (but this IS MWGL), I'm so lost on fretboard radius. If I pick up a guitar and it feels right, I like it. I've never bothered to note the radius that correlated to that. I couldn't even tell you if they're all the same or close when I do find one I like. *noob*

A general rule is that the flatter the fretboard, the better it is for lead playing.

Say, an old Fender with a 7,5" radius - you'll often fret out or have massive noises around the 12th to 17th fret (especially when doing bends), thus not getting a really low action like most lead players want. On the other hand, barre chords on a flat fretboard is hell.

So it really is down to your playing style.

I have a Warmoth neck on my Tele that has a compound radius. That works great - fairly curved at the first frets (where you generally play chords) and then gets progressively flatter. A good compromise imo.

I'm generally not bothered by radius. The neck shape means much more to me. My Tele has a 7 1/2" radius. My Ibanez has a 15" radius. Whatever works.

I seem to be picky about necks. I don't like 12 inches or flatter, I also don't like 7.25.

I also prefer short-scale Fender necks, so there's that.

I had a Korean Squier with a 7,5" radius fingerboard and I couldn't do bar chords on it for love nor money. Useless fucking broomstick board.

Never had any trouble on classical or Les Paul/PRS flatboards.

Guess who went to Thomann today?

Summary,

Extremely nice guitar at 779 bucks. Build quality was top notch. Playability was great for me neck was a bit wide like I like it, good middle ground of wide fretboard and not too meaty neck. Bridge pup was fabulous, neck pup seemed too bassy. The dry switch seemed to just scoop the bass out which was fine for the neck pup. If I was the kind to buy a guitar for that price and switch the pups out like other folks are always doing, I would snatch it up in a heartbeat.

Edit: just to clarify, I would only want to trade out the neck pup. It may have been okay if someone would just adjust the height.
