Mental health check-in

Fuck. submitted two home loan apps (to different lenders to shop), am meeting with a listing agent for our house tomorrow, and looking at potential homes to purchase this afternoon. Shit is getting real. Kids are all home, and not that stoked on that the house is going to go, and I am not either. But too much house in terms of size and money for a 60 year old single guy. Oh well. Send it!!

Good luck. I went through the whole process just under two years ago, but it was a different market then. No fun.

There's a lot of pain involved with post-divorce house selling and buying, but it will feel so much better in no time.

I hope I get the one I want. We shall see.

It is the one everyone is interested in. There are a couple others, but those have incoming offers too, and do not do what I need in terms of storage, a second living space for guitar and recreation, and room for kids to come home and use as a home base. This one does. And is located well and does not need anything immediately. So I will bid up on this one a ways to secure it.

Once I get this figured out, I will set about making my spaces just like I did in the apartment and it will come together again. maybe not perfectly, but good enough.

That's a nice house...

Good luck on the house hunting and that place looks great.

We've been looking in earnest the past few months, had our first proper shouting argument in 6+ years of marriage and over a decade of being together over this nonsense. :annoyed:

On the upside, interest rates have gone up again so repayments are crazy and we're mortgage free just now so Mrs JBJ is being a bit more sensible and less eager to move out of our perfectly fine well looked after current place. Had I let her win said argument and bid what she wanted we'd have just done ourselves out of £25k+ interest given it's now gone to fixed price (and we could probably get £5k or so under that) less than 3 weeks later.

A friends mum has a lovely place, is looking to sell soon and loved our neighbours house when they sold up last year so I'm angling to do a little switcher. We would need to take on some sort of borrowing but the moving process would be a lot smoother and we know exactly what we're getting in to, not having to haggle or deal with other buyers etc... so we'll see how that goes.

The main hang up is the master is downstairs. But that's ok. and can be fixed later if I stay until I am old enough to want to be on one level.
I get that. We are about the same age and our master is up a rather steep flight of stairs. The up is ok, but the down might be iffy in a decade or so. The house is beautiful. I hope you can get it! Love the back yard.

That's a really nice house. Those prices are insane though! That house would be 425 here if not less.

In 2015, it was listed at $325K.
I despise the over inflated house pricing in most of the US. Will the bubble burst soon?
From what I hear from my old mortgage buddies we should be seeing some kind of pricing drop only because rates are supposed to keep going up for a bit.
It's so bad right now my one buddy switched to doing financing on expensive yachts and is making more money than ever.

That's really going to depend on the supply vs demand in each market though. Low inventory markets with brisk demand will see less price impact than the opposite situations.

That is the issue here. And I hear even in Washington state where there has been a drop in perceived equity, it depends on where. I have an offer in on that house and will see how it goes. Would love to have this go through and click one thing off the list. We also met with the listing agents for our house today. Hard to say goodbye to this place.

Good luck with your offer and good luck getting an offer on the old place soon too.

Not official yet as I have not received the signed document back, but it sounds like my offer is being accepted .
Good luck on the new house.

Now official! They took my offer as is so moving forward. It was a full ask offer with short close and preapproval for the loan, and otherwise very clean with no contingencies, other than an inspection. They were considering holding out for an all cash deal. Or some thing for a little more money as people are still getting into bidding wars around here, but went ahead and went with my deal. So, now I don’t have to pay another months rent as my last month is paid through August 15, with closing set up for August 3 and all I need to do is make sure I get the bank everything I need for a loan to go through.

there was a little bit of family emotion with the kids moving forward with having to sell the family home but we had some good discussions and everyone’s doing as well as they can. Processing and a little sad would be the term I think for everyone but basically OK.

I don't know. Kind of fits here I guess? An attitude I am considering, even if I don't completely give up the fight against the oncoming darkness, and current injustice. At least it provides a perspective.

Many indicators say that it will burst but many of those indicators have been present for a long time. It's a very odd time.

To all,
It seems like many are having real challenges lately. Just know that people read the posts and have compassion even when they don't respond - often not knowing what response is appropriate.

Sometimes a "like" is given to indicate that
yeah, I get what you're going through and support you, even though I can't find the words to properly express it
.

S0 good news! Got loan approval confirmation for the new house so am free to close on Aug 3! Hired an organizer to help go through stuff and get rid of it, and pack only what I want to bring. Not all the way through that but making good headway. So, onward!! Looking forward to settling in a new place, being in a new place.
