Give me something to watch on Netflix

Ok, I’ve finished S2. It’s a joy. It was just renewed for a third season, and should air late in the year. I can’t wait.

I’m not much of a horror fan — and this one isn’t scary at all, really — but if you dig murderous dolls with extremely dark comedy, is campy, is smart, has convoluted plot lines, has tons of movie references, had plenty of gore, and is very queer-positive…

It’s for you.

Sounds good to me. On the 'murderous doll' front, I'm about to watch M3GAN.

It's not on Netflix, but I'm currently watching OZ. The fictional HBO show that's about life in prison. It's really good.

Oh man, I'd love to rewatch that and see how it holds up. To my way of thinking Oz and The Shield were the two shows that really changed the whole landscape of dramas in the late '90s and early '00s.

I’d say The Sopranos and Buffy.

Not saying that they’re the best, but purely in terms of influence at turn-of-the-century…

Without Oz there is no Sopranos. Without The Sopranos there is nothing.

I rewatched Oz a few years ago. It holds up great and is still as brutal as fuck!

Just watched the first two episodes of Poker Face, and absolutely love it. It's a 'howcatchem' that's quite deliberately a spiritual successor to Columbo, but also with some great Rockford Files/Petrocelli/Incredible Hulk energy. Natasha Lyonne is absolutely killing it with the Peter Falkisms, and it's got the Columbo 'special guest star' thing. It's a total pleasure to watch.

If you can enjoy the occasional Telugu action epic, then this is a must-watch. It’s available on Netflix in Canada, so it should be available elsewhere. The song and dance and ridiculousness is there, of course, but it’s all well-done.

RRR is a lot of fun and hell of a ride. Big budget Bollywood historical action movie. Stupidly over the top action with some fun dance moves thrown in. Be warned, it's 3 hours long (though it flies past).

One thing I will say, it's _incredibly_ racist towards the English. Really, if it was black or brown people being portrayed like that there would be justifiable uproar. I guess that's the payback for 300 years of colonial oppression

I wouldn’t call it racist at all. No, its depiction of British colonialism in India was not, um, nuanced. But I’m glad that it wasn’t.

It was refreshing, as most films that touch on colonialism, history, war, slavery, etc., usually have come combination of (understandable) solemnity and (bullshit) White Saviour narratives.

Now, I would totally have rolled my eyes if the movie had been about the American revolution. That shit’s insufferable.

Excited for episode 3 of The Last of Us tonight.

I think I watched the first 3 seasons of Oz. Brutal soap opera for men. I’m still terrified of the thought of going to jail.

Game changing HBO shows that should not be missed are Deadwood and The Wire. Season 2 of The Wire is kinda rough but the entire run is magnificent.

Yeah. S3 and S4 of The Wire is as good as television has ever been.
