Give me something to watch on Netflix

I guess I missed it when it first aired, but I am almost through the first season of The Alienist on Max and I think it's brilliant. Very dark, intense, and gory but the cast is great with some killer acting.

I particularly like the leads Daniel Bruhl, who was also in Inglorious Basterds, and Dakota Fanning. Older stalwarts Ted Levine, Sean Young, and Michael Ironside play supporting roles.

Theater Camp on Disney+/Hulu is a lot of fun. It had good reviews but I assumed it would be some sort of Glee knock off. Instead it's a Christopher Guest style mockumentary that gave me several proper belly laughs.

i just watched Leave The World Behind on Netflix and woooooof. it was good but too heavy and depressing for me.

watched it last night. I thought it was very good. And I actually thought the end was quite optimistic

i guess i was just not in the right frame of mind for it. i found it deeply disturbing probably because i think it is at least plausible if not likely to occur. it was really well done it just made me feel even more hopeless

It was a pretty good depiction of a plausible scenario and the way people would react to such a situation, and in that respect, I can see your pessimism.

I was merely referring to the ending of the movie itself

Landscape with Invisible Hand. Haven't heard too much buzz about it, but I really enjoyed it. Thought-provoking film about life during a benevolent alien occupation.

that sounds right up my alley. Gonna check it out tonight

I just watched this and thoroughly enjoyed it. :thu:

Glad you enjoyed it! I thought it had a lot of interesting things to say about the economics of colonialism, the compromises the colonized make in order to get by/ahead, the ways that the imperial core consume or engage with 'native' art, and the ways in which the colonized artist navigates their place in the world.

One of the most poignant scenes was when the ‘girlfriend’s’ brother tried to give a history lesson to the main character about always being oppressed

I liked that scene too!

'People like your momma have been dominating people like us for decades'
'People like my momma have been dominating people like you?! '

There were a lot of poignant, thoughtful interactions and observations.

I liked the scene with the Jim Crow minstrel-esque 'improvements' they made to his art too.

I watched Under the Skin for like the 3rd or 4th time last night. I just love that movie. Oh that's right, Scarlett Johannsen is completely naked in it. A couple of times. No wonder I like it.

I watched a horrible horror movie based on the parental information given.
I'm not proud of it, but it was absolutely correct.
I'm sure it's streaming somewhere.
