Give me something to watch on Netflix

And while we're on The Exorcist topic: the best thing by far in the Exorcist franchise since the OG movie was the TV show (2016-17). It was fantastic.

It’s very good movie.

I'm sure it it is. Just never got round to it. Feels kind of redundant. I've seen the clips of the spinning head and most of it has become cliche through its influence.

I only finally watched Citizen Kane this year :embarrassed:

Anyway, I'm firmly on team The Omen

Good grief. Don’t get me wrong, The Omen is solid stuff and fun and just one of those classic family pictures.

But it’s not even the best movie that’s about a parent who begin to suspect that their child might be the antichrist.

I think Exorcist III was the best thing since then. It's a very good film.

But the TV show was well made.

Exorcist III is great, love it. But I know it wasn't originally meant to be an Exorcist film, and that kinda comes across. The TV show was full-on Exorcist, and expanded the OG film in a really organic way.

I saw a stage production of The Exorcist in London about 5 years ago. Ian McKellen did the voice of Pazuzu. It was fucking awful.

Only redeeming quality was a delightful Burke, who was shaved down significantly from the novel to the movie.

If you want something light and funny, Our Flag Means Death on HBO Max is great.

I adore this series.

Was totally ambivalent about the first couple of episodes. Then I was curious because I had no idea where this was going. Then everything clicked and it was magical.

I watched Bottoms last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Some great subversive laughs, and I love how they leaned into the absurdism. Plus it's pretty violent!

Finally got around to watching this one, and it’s terrific.

Might also function as a great litmus test for squares.

Six Feet Under showed up on Netflix. I started watching it and I liked the first few episodes - lots of dark irreverent humor. However, it seemed to quickly fall into the same trap that most comedy/drama series seem to eventually hit: the comedy dries up leaving just drama. And not good drama at that, just bullshit from pretentious characters full of themselves.

I notice that there are six seasons. Does it ever get back to actual comedy?

It's really not a comedy.

Ok, comedy might not be the right word. But the first few episodes had some great dark irreverent humor with a little drama thrown in. The humor seems to have evaporated pretty quickly, and the drama morphed into soap opera.

All the Light We Cannot See is an enjoyable 4 part series from the same titled book. It isn't trying to be an ultra realistic WW2 portrayal. It is about the characters and their growth arc.
