Baseball 2018

Well, it looks like Avelino will be on the big club next year. He's Rule 5. They have to put him on the 40 man, so he should shuttle between Sac and SF.

As a lifelong Red Sox fan, I am a pessimist (and a dark, dark one) by nature. But it seems that we are absolutely touched this year. Brandon Phillips hitting a game winning home run to cap a six-run comeback in the ninth? You're joking, right?

My only question is if this run of insane luck will last through October.

Do other baseball fans find the Red Sox intimidating, or do we appear to be living with a horseshoe up our bum?

Thread revival?

Insight into why Boston fans are paranoid: the Red Sox tied a decades-old record for team wins, are wrapping up a huge season with big series against their potential playoff opponents, and Sports Illustrated's MLB headline is about 'the Yankees magical 1978 season.' OK.

Well a week ago the Rockies had their season fate in their own hands. And promptly blew chunks by getting swept by the Dodgers.

So with 7 games to go they are 1 1/2 games out of the division lead and 1 1/2 games out of the wildcard play in game. If they win tonight it cuts both leads to 1 game with 6 to play. The Rocks really need to win out. A division tie or a tie for the second wildcard game means a one game playoff for those spots (IIRC) - and that is not the best situation to be in. Plus the wildcard playoff will be in Milwaukee unless they absolutely tank this week, and that is not a winnable game. The Rocks need to win the division and take on Atlanta, who I see as beatable. The Cubs, not so much.

It's a bit depressing around here right now. The Rockies are thick in a playoff hunt and all the sports talking heads around here can discuss is a mediocre Broncos team.

Giants play the bums for the last 3 games of the season. I hope they spoil the bums run for you.
