Any motorcycle enthusiasts in Weinertown?

Our local dealer is inside an Harley franchise. It's an odd mix and they look at you kinda funny when you ask about the REs.
RE has really stepped up their game in the past few years and the introduction of these models are really repositioning them in the market. IIRC both of the new twins were designed by former Triumph engineers.

My local Kawa/Yama/Triumph dealer has had RE for at least 5-6 yrs now, and he’s the only one in the state. He’s been there since 1975 and not going anywhere. Sells as many Mules and Jet Skis as bikes.
Yes the GT650 has parts built to price, but she don’t vibrate, handles good, and shifts smooth thru the 6 gears. Disk brakes front and rear are decent, ByBembro, Indian subsidiary. It has ABS and fuel injection. RE bought a custom racing frame company a few years back and now even the old single models rock and roll on a much nicer frame with decent welds. Not gonna win any races on it, 48 hp or so Euro A2 compliant but still a fun bike for about the same price as a Japanese 300-400cc naked bike. Much roomier and way more my style. Simple enough I can do most of my own servicing. Just will have to take it in for a valve adj every 12,000 mi.
The HD Softail Lowrider ain’t going anywhere. I was just getting a bit bored with it for short rides to town etc. The Lowrider is a perfect bike for the open road but kinda a lead sled in town red light to red light.
The little 50cc scooter just wasn’t fast enough on roads with a speed limit over 40.

Problem solved

Though, I've got all the time in the world to install it now that the OHV trails are likely closed for the rest of the season due to the wildfires.

Since the woods have been on fire and the OHV trails are off limits, I decided to see why exactly the needle valve

At least that's how this started

I had an opportunity to buy a friend in need's custom built Yamaha. I don't even remember what it looked like when we/he started the build but it is damn gorgeous. He offered it for a grand. He easily has 3 grand in it and bought the base bike for 3. I told him I couldn't in good conscience give him that little and couldn't do much more than that right now. He ended up selling it for $1500. Breaks my heart but he needed the money. I will eventually get another bike. Some day.

Some garage updates:

Carb rebuild was a home run. The bike starts easier, runs fantastic and the carb no longer overflows. Fueling is much better over the entire travel of the throttle.

Upgrades for the WR: There were a few events this year I passed on because the bikes range was an issue. I'll be installing a larger tank this week & probably picking up a seat concepts kit over winter to get the bike capable of more range w/ a little more comfort. The stock tank I'm looking at ~80 miles range while the new tank should get me out to 100 miles and I can pick up a GL gas bag strap more gas on the bike when needed.

1090 has been sold. Kinda sad to see the bike go as it's been a stellar ride. Picking up the Duke had the completely unexpected result of my wife preferring that to the 1090 for our two up riding so the 1090 has just been sitting. I'm thinking a 690/701 enduro might be next...because...planning a possible Baja trip for March 2021.

The RE is turning out to be really fun. I'm enjoying riding it more than the Harley. It gets the daily call unless I need to carry some groceries or do significant highway miles . The thing handles great. It encourages you to push things a bit but doesn't terrify you when you do.

I've done a few mods:
1. Took off the plastic mud guards/fender extensions and the passenger grab rail. Not gonna carry anybody and it cleaned up the lines.
2. Ditched the heavy stock mufflers with the built in CATs for some lighter ones. Gained a bit of pep. Cant tell if its engine or weight, or a bit of both. Sound is a bit louder but not obnoxious.
3. Installed the center stand that comes stock on the Interceptor but not on the Continental. It put a good bit of weight back on but it will be worth it for ease of chain lubing, oil changes, etc.
4. Installed bar end mirrors. Much better looking IMO.
5. Installed short fly screen. No real improvement in wind protection, but it'll keep the bugs off the speedo and tach and looks kinda cool.
6. Found a good looking small faux leather side bag with stitching that matches the seat.

I’m having TW200 gas lately. None at the local dealers. One has a WR250 though!

Dirt bikes have been selling like hot cakes during the pandemic.

TW is great if you just want to plonk along. A buddy has one that he uses for teaching folks how to ride a trail bike.
Which WR250? the R or F? The R is a street legal dual sport where the F is not street legal and a more capable trail bike. One of the guys I ride w/ has an R that's pretty well sorted out w/ a slew of aftermkt accessories and does pretty well in the woods.

It's also the anniversary of paulo goncalves' fatal accident in last year's Dakar. Riders are running tribute decals
