Saw Face to Face last night. Still one of the best live bands out there. Took a friend of mine who had never seen them. After the show he said he didn’t care where they were playing, if I get a ticket, get him one.

Not 2019 but I am seeing Tommy Emmanuel in February with my nephew. I may have posted this already.

I just got a front row ticket to see Tom Paxton with the Don Juans tomorrow night. I saw him a year or so ago, and he is still in fine voice for his age. Carol is away visiting her son this weekend, so I decided to treat myself.

Nov 3, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza,Ca.
I'm not sure if any of his guests on his album will be there. Like Satriani, Lifeson, Fleetwood, Frampton, Weir, or others.

Yes, he is & he’s fantastic, as well as the other band members!
First time I ever saw Kenny was a couple of shows in the late 90s when he was playing with Lucinda Williams. This is an ACL appearance from that era:

Around the same time I moved up to Nashville and there was a period where you could catch him a couple nights a week playing at Robert's on lower Broadway. We'd go there after work and get a burger and a few beers and watch him do two or three hour classic country sets. That's where he truly fried my brain.

Okay so I saw Houston date of the Jimi Hendrix Experience 2019 tour at Revention Hall downtown this evening (5th row!). I'll upload videos and photos later because it's late as shit and I have to fly to New Mexico tomorrow because -- get this -- my second granddaughter was born in Carlsbad while I was watching Eric Johnson do his version of "Axis Bold as Love."

I will give you these preliminary thoughts, though:
  • Of all the guitar players up there, Jonny Lang was ... mediocre tonight. I may play lead better than him, though he probably has the advantage on rhythm. He sang well enough and had a good stage presence due to a lot of facial contortion and extreme body english while playing. Another guy up there called Mato Nanji, the frontman for the band Indigenous, had a very reserved stage presence, but was a much better straight-up guitar player than Jonny Lang.
  • Dweezil Zappa is a perfectly fine guitarist with a great touch and technique, but he failed to bring out the burned Hendrix Monterey Strat, which he owns.
  • Everything that Eric Johnson played sounded like Hendrix refracted through a "Cliff of Dover" prism. Don't get me wrong, that's not a bad thing. Also, I didn't know EJ sang.
  • Buddy Guy, despite being 83 years old, still looks like he could kick a little ass. Also, he's no slouch at in-the-pocket blues guitar.
  • Kings X's Dug Pinnick is 69 years old and looks at least 5 years younger than me, and I'm 54. Black don't crack, I guess. He also sang his ass off, played a hellacious bass, and his arms looked conservatively 5 feet long each.
  • Joe Satriani, even though I've seen him live about 7 times -- including G3 and solo tours -- never, ever fails to astonish. He always closes the show because when he's done, he's used up all the available reserves of 'guitar playing' and there's just left none for anyone else to tap into. Joe's playing is an unsustainable model ... he's a Dodge Viper with the pedal pushed to the floor, even when he's doing something intricate and heartfelt. Joe Satriani is a goddamned cyborg kung fu master at guitar.

He's a hell of a guitarist, and I love his weaving interplay with Marty Stuart.

Looks like we’re a little early for the Wilco show.

Our dinner went unexpectedly quick, because the sushi place we tried was disappointing.
