2019 Concert thread

Should I?
My understanding is they released some more tickets yesterday but I don't know if they've all been snatched up.

I'm looking forward to it. I've seen his recent setlists and peeked at a few YouTube clips and he sounds great.

And there's no fucking way I'd be excited about the prospect of driving all the way back to Albuquerque from Taos at midnight, but you do you.

The Knopfler show last night was outstanding. Big band (10 guys + MK) but there was always plenty of space, every lick was understated and rich. Everyone on stage was a brilliant player.

And the man himself sounds as good as he ever has, the sweetest tone on the planet IMO. Doesn’t matter which guitar he is playing, he has that signature sound. And he used almost a different one for each song. The ol red Strat came out a couple times, including “Sailing to Philadelphia,” which gave me multiple chillgasms.

My favorite moment was when they did one of the Irishy tunes on all acoustic instruments. Just perfect.

This was my first time in this venue, Smart Financial Center in Sugar Land. It’s big and maybe a little sterile, but it is shaped like an actual music hall, and the sound was very good.

Saw The Raconteurs night before last. No pics, due to their no phone policy. I have to admit, I was initially irritated about having to lock my phone in a pouch, but as the show went on I really enjoyed not being distracted by all the little glowing screens - I'd like to see more shows be phone free.

The opener was Olivia Jean, who I hadn't heard of prior, but she was great. Really excellent garage goth vibe going on. I was impressed.

Then The Raconteurs took the stage. Incredibly primal, visceral show - in the top 5 shows I've ever seen. They left the audience drained, wanting more, and yet satisfied. As much as I dig their albums, the songs had an entirely new life live, so much better. They've become a band I will always see i they're on tour anywhere within a couple hours drive.

This Friday: Globalquerque! with Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Mdou Moctar, and The Garifuna Collective.

I anticipate a groovy evening.

My brother is going on a road trip to Tempe Arizona for tomorrow nights Iron Maiden show. Steve Harris's sons band is opening for them.

Going Wed evening. Sounds like it will be an awesome show, as expected.

WTF, where are all the people?

Looks like you had way more comfortable seats than we will. My ticket clearly states 'concrete bench'. It is at the Greek Theater, so I shouldn't be surprised.

Story checks out

Exactly this. Awesome show. Mark sounded as good as ever, backed by his long time recording band.

Slight disappointment that he didn't play SoS. I'm thinking it might be a bit much for him nowadays? I think I read somewhere that he wasn't playing it very often if at all due to the speed. I was in shorts and a t shirt, but he was bundled up, and even used a couple of hand warmers at times between songs. Hard to pull off the second SoS solo with frozen fingers.

Anyway, his tone was godlike.
