2019 Concert thread

Philip Glass and the Ensemble are going to show Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance with live music on September 22. I need to see if Carol wants to go, otherwise I will go on my own. In the meantime I picked up two free tickets for A Conversation with Philip Glass on September 21. I am a big fan.
I saw a similar performance back in the early 90s; it was great

We're seeing Justin Hayward Saturday night. Mike Dawes will open and perform with him, I imagine.

Saw Foreigner Tuesday night. I wasn't expecting much (how can Foreigner be Foreigner without Lou Gramm?). I have to say, it was a pretty good show. The guy singing does a good job without trying to sound like Gramm. Mick Jones looks like he belongs more in a BBC comedy about an aging pensioner than in a rock band, but he still has impressive chops. All in all, good show. And with no opening act, it was over in time for me to get home at a decent hour, even with the hour drive home, and the CST to EST time change.

I am in my ancestral homeland at the teenage rock shed of my formative years to watch the Zombie Pumpkins supported by the Oasis dude. For the full 90s experience, I had a delicious pregame meal of Taco Bell.

Everything seems shitty and squalid. Turns out you CAN go home again...but why?!?

Has anyone caught the Willie Nelson/Bonnie Raitt show that is touring? I'd love to see Bonnie Raitt, and they are going to be in Cincy which isn't a horrible drive, but the thought of fighting stadium sized throngs of Willie fans gives me the heebies.

I'm a huge Raitt fan, but she's getting up there in years, and she's already retired once. If I knew she was doing solid shows, I'd suck it up and go.

I thought Willie canceled for now due to breathing issues? Willie plays small clubs many times. You can hang with his fans in a more intimate setting. I'm a fan .

I caught Foreigner a couple years back and I had a blast. The band is tight and the riffs are good.

Noel G. is a surprisingly solid b-tier big stage performer. Solid mix of new and old. And the old was a few hits and a few deep cuts. Giant goddamn band. Three piece horn section?!?

Came away pleasantly surprised. Never been a big Oasis fan, but it was a good set and kind of a retro trip to be seeing a big concert like this. Normally I see shows in theater and bars, so...

This iteration of the Pumpkins might be the most muso-tastic version. Everyone’s on their cues. Chamberlain is back in fighting form. The result is a perfectly cromulent stadium-type show. (Thank goodness they’re no longer covering Stairway.). But they lack some of the dreamy strangeness and actual no fucks given swagger and chaotic fire. I get it. They’re pros taking a victory lap and making money. And it’s a good SP experience sort of thing. But part of their appeal when they were a going concern is that they were an unpredictable, self-immolating mess of contradictory impulses. Now they’re able stadium rockers.

The World Music Hollywood I-80 Drive-In Theater brought to you by Carl’s Jr. was a dump when it was new in the early 90s. It’s a dump now. The crowd was getting stumble down drunk on a Thursday. The south burbs are the worst. I thought someone was gonna forcibly make me wear one of those “thin blue line” Punisher logo tee shirts.

Indian played a free show at a local hipster beer bar last night. Fancy pants beer and DOOOOOM.

Lingua Ignota in a couple weeks!

We got to go see SHEL last night. Great show with some nice twists. They have a lot of personal friends in the Springs area, so the shows here tend to be a bit more informal and 'living room' like, even though we are in a (kick ass) regular venue. They played 6 brand new unreleased songs last night - two of which they had never performed live. All the new songs were really good.

Third time I have seen SHEL and they have gotten better each show. And they started off really good. I definitely recommend seeing them when they are in your neck of the woods.
