2019 Concert thread

Buddy talked me into going to see Luna on the old person cash grab nostalgia “playing their beloved masterpiece in full” circuit in October.

Similarly, I’m toying with seeing Belle and Sebastian at ‘fork because they’re doing Sinster in full. But at $75 bucks a pop, I might just stay home. There’s a couple other interesting acts that day, but it’s outside in full sunlight and that’ll wreak havoc on my pallor.

I’ll probably catch See Through Dresses at Beat Kitchen in a couple weeks because my wife will be out of town and I’ll take advantage of an opportunity to go out on a school night and stay out late without incurring cranky face or admonishments re: “getting enough sleep.”

My buddy and I just scored tickets to the Oct 20th Houston date of the Jimi Hendrix Experience tour with Buddy Guy, Satriani, Eric Johnson, Doyle Bramhall II, Dweezil Zappa, Jonny Lang, Billy Cox, Dug Pinnick, Big Head Todd and others.

Tonight I shall see the Mountain Goats because my buddy couldn’t use his tickets because he and his wife bought concert tickets for the day before their baby was due. They’re optimists! And their daughter is 9 days old today.

Rolling Stones at the Rose Bowl just got rescheduled for August 22nd. I have my hands on my hips strutting around like Mick I'm so happy.

Great show. He does not suck.

My seat was actually much better than this but I thought these were cool shots of the venue.

I'm old friends with Evan's sister. I hope it goes well. I'm staying home that night.
You know how in Peanuts Pig-Pen always had a perpetual cloud of dirt following him around? That's kind of what Evan Dando has going on except it's some kind of murky, druggy perma-haze.

The show was more or less exactly what you'd expect a Lemonheads show to be, which is to say it was sloppy and ragged and his voice was blown out and the set was sprinkled with pop gems. And his choice of covers was a hoot:

John Prine — "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness"
Lucinda Williams — "Abandoned"
Michael Nesmith — "Different Drum"

Did he play mostly stuff from It's a Shame About Ray and Come on Feel the Lemonheads?

Caught the Chris Robinson Brotherhood last night.

It was terrible.
Audition tape for Chris Robinson Brotherhood:

"Can you look just like me?"

"Like you, sir?"

"You know. Greying homeless guy beard. Uncombed Jesus hair. Tinted aviator sunglasses. Clothes from Good Will that are always wrinkled."

"Uhh... I guess so. Can I play some--."

"You're in... new brother."

Yeah, plus a few ("Hospital", "Outdoor Type", "Break Me") from Car Button Cloth.

It wasn't a terrible show (I've seen him put on a terrible show). But he did apologize for the state of his voice and consequently didn't come out for an encore.
