Wood Fired Ovens

That's an excellent looking pizza!

It's easy enough but you do have to chop some wood up in advance, then top the fire up a couple of times before you can cook with it. Then I just add a log after each pizza to keep it going while making the next one.

We only tend to do 2 or 3 smaller pizzas at a time so more likely to be 1 or 2 big ones.

Waste of time for doing that?

The bigger 16inch gas ooni is 500 quid too so I'm torn. I want to make bigger pizzas and the aldi one would look great in my garden but I don't want to buy it then wish I'd stuck with the ease of gas.

I'd go with gas, I've been looking into adding a gas burner to mine for ease of use, and I like playing with fire. Assuming that bigger ooni gets good reviews, I assume it does

When I was looking there was only the roccbox with gas option in budget, I went with the maximus for a bit of extra space and I thought wood fire= better pizza, but because they burn so hot it doesn't really make a difference to flavour.

How you getting on with it?

We're using ours at least once a week. Still trying to nail the perfect dough.

Aldi are selling a big wood fired oven from tomorrow am. I think I'm going to try and get one - the fyra os a great bit of kit but i wish it was bigger.
I haven't used it in quite a while. Not once this year even. I just don't like the pellets. Wish I had gas. I'd probably use it a lot more.
I bought an Akorn (ceramic egg) grill and I've been using that a ton. Might get the pizza stone and heat diffuser for it and just sell my Ooni.
I'm with you, I want bigger pizzas. The Akorn will get up to 700 degrees easily so it would work well and I wouldn't have to turn the pie at all during cooking.

Ooni are putting the prices of their ovens up from the 1st of October so I've ordered the 16inch gas one :thu:

Looking forward to being able to make bigger pizzas, one issue I've had is having to keep it small enough to fit in the 12inch oven.

Sidenote, I'm doing a healthy eating topic with some seniors jist now. We got round to talking about breaking down the cost of ingredients and I mentioned my pizzas.

Dominos, pizza hut, papa John's etc... Are charging close to £20 for a "large" 12-13 inch pie.

I worked out I can make a similar pie for £1-2 depending on the topings and that's using Caputo flower and quality mozzarella.

Not just cheaper but I imagine dominoes etc are loaded with a lot more fat, sugar and salt.

Made these a few weeks ago, looking forward to some drier weather so I can use it again.
