The Whiskey Thread

That better be a whole lot better than the regular JD - shouldn't be too hard, because that shit is undrinkable. :embarrassed:
The single barrel is considerably better, ie. they actually still do quality control on each barrel of that one. But you pay quite a bit more than you would for a comparable single barrel Bourbon IMO. Someone's gotta pay for all that advertising!
Elijah Craig has become my new favorite. As good as any I've tried and for barely $20 a bottle.
Wow, you get Elijah Craig for $20? Outstanding. We pay around $35.
But at least I can still make you jealous. In a few hours I'm going to pick up a barrel of it.

Bastard!
Yeah. I think Foo and I paid like $22 for a 750ml bottle last time.

I haven't tasted Jack Daniels No. 7 since high school, but I remember it basically being charcoal juice flavored paint thinner.

It's the kind of the thing I drink only when someone else is buying, and I'm too drunk to notice the horrid taste.

firstly......i don't know about single barrel Jack....but i can tell you Gentleman Jack ain't that much better than regular Jack(off)......i bought a pint of it and had one sip....and was on the phone to a friend who likes jack & coke.....he got that pint.

and secondly......i feel very satisfied that folks are getting clued in on Elijah Craig.....i've been touting that stuff here and at HC for a couple years now. :thu:

Your posts are what inspired me to try it. Well done.

yer welcome. when i've given some to friends they kinda just stare at the glass after their first taste......then comes the "how much did THIS cost"....and when i say $24.....the almost spray it all over the place. i still like B.T. just a bit more....but E.C. gives me two that i really like at under $25 or so.....so i always have an option.

if you get a few extra bucks in yer pocket (and can find it)....i STRONGLY recommend trying the Eagle Rare.....about $30-ish and smoother than either of the BT or EC....:thu:

I didn't enjoy the Eagle Rare that much, but it was a while ago. I might need to give Elijah Craig a try all the same.

really? wow......well.....that's why there's so many different kinds.....everyone's pallete tastes thing differently. :thu:

I've never tried rye but there's nothing wrong with the turkey. Not bad at all.
A little stout to drink straight up but it makes a great (and potent) mixer.

I've never gotten into Buffalo Trace or Eagle Rare, either. They're fine whiskey but not ones I'd pick given comparable options. Buffalo Trace Distillery, though, makes some of the best liquor on the planet IMO.

Eagle Rare 10 is like the soft core porn of bourbon....tantalizing aroma but the flavor doesn't deliver on that promise. Some people love it though and if it satisfies for the price, that's what counts.

That was my experience, too. The aroma said, "Oh my", but the taste said, "Oh well".

I used to drink the 18-year a lot. At $70, it was a steal. But while the 12-year, 20-year, and 21-year are all great, I feel like they sell for what they should or maybe a little more. There is very little change I'd pay what they ask for the 20 and 21. And IIRC they have a 23 that hasn't been widely released, yet. The price on that one is pretty obscene.

Saw this while flipping through my photobucket.
