WTF: The Third Installement Of The Thread About Nothing

It's been a busy day. I sold 2 guitars and a set of pickups. That makes 4 guitars sold this week. I'm also working on a deal with a local store. He wants to buy at least 6 guitars from me. I have to reinstall the stock pickups in them. I may be able to sell him as many as ten if it all works out.

Good for you PK. That's great news.

Hi Kids - A bunch of news I expect I have missed. Some gear news on my end. Got a good deal on a used SX300.

Some observations - It is bulky at 25 inches wide - but light at under 20 lbs. This came w/ a footswitch and it works perfectly. No clicking or gap at all switching between channels. The channel 3 is clean channel. Channels 1 & 2 are identical voice - except Ch 1 has a high gain boost, and Ch 2 has a "Blues Drive" switch that bumps the mids, and makes the gain a bit tamer.

One thing I noticed is this is a pretty bright amp - even with the presence off. On my amps my norm is to bump the treble, and the bass, and roll the mid's off slightly. With the SX I actually want to roll the treble back and bump the mids. So for a JCM-ish tone - Treble at 5, both mids & bass about 7, Gain about 6. I am finding to get that JCM tone the gain should not be over the top. It seems closest with Gain between 5 and 7. Back in the day Marshall's were way gainy - but compared to modern amps - Mesa Boogie, Krank, etc. - not that high gain if that makes sense. The SX is not a modeling amp - I am hearing that the SX has a voice of its own. but the effects are nice to have. I got a good Voxy tone by bumping the mid and putting gain between 3 to 4.

I engaged the Blues Drive on Ch 2, and bumped volume. The Blues drive gives you another amp imo. It really changes character of the amp. The first couple times I tried the blues drive I did not think it added much - but after adjusting volume it adds quite a bit to the amp. There is a bit of a mismatch between the SX300 at 100W and the WGS Retro 30 at 75W - but it seems to work. I really have to dial back the high gain channels to use it at the house. I think with volume at 3 - that is about the loudest I could use at the house.

It is a bit of an overkill for my needs - but I really, really like it and expect I will keep it.

Nice, Woody! Good to see you.

Don't you have another Carvin amp?

I've been trimming down my gear collection. I sold 4 guitars over the last 1.5 weeks. I should sell 6 or more this week. It's nice to get rid of the stuff that I don't play. There's more to come. Outside of a few home builds, I'm trimming down to my Heritages, Carvins, Washburn, and my Peavey Strats. I'll keep my partscaster Teles too.

 evenin. nice amp Woodrow. I just watched a carvin factory build for a guitar and was surprised to see them using chinese switches and pots.......

Been pretty busy with work, but also I have been doing construction in my backyard, creating a Tea House, Waterfall with Stream, and the fun of diggin trenches to run electrical all the way from my house. That was the most fun. Aint nothing like trying to dig under 8 ft of cement to reach your house.

In gear news. I have no new gear.

Good to see this thread come back to life. Many days, I just don't have anything to say but, I still look forward to reading what everybody else has to say. Sad when nobody else is talking either.

PK - What guitars are you selling? Do you have a list somewhere? I saw you sold some. And yes, I had a couple Carvins including a 100xb I sold to Saturn.

Ken - Interesting. I don't know about electronics - but Chinese tools have come a long way. Equal to USA built IMO.

Woody - Here are the links:

To me the Chinese electronics are the one thing about Carvin that I don't like. They use mini pots. When they fail I replace them with full size CTS pots. But they honestly don't fail any more often than US pots.

A Clean Butt Is A Happy Butt

Four squares to a wipe...
A clean butt is a happy butt...
And three or four wipes should do it...
A clean butt is a happy butt...

Well, we first start out in diapers...
And our mommies get to clean our mess...
She doesn't ever like to do it...
And sometimes it gets on her dress...

And though he doesn't like it either...
Sometimes even daddy helps out...
And when he gets it on his hands...
We can see daddy pout...

Four squares to a wipe...
A clean butt is a happy butt...
And three or four wipes should do it...
A clean butt is a happy butt...

Eventually we're out of diapers...
And we learn to clean ourselves...
If we don't do a really good job...
Our butts won't feel well...

Four squares to a wipe...
A clean butt is a happy butt...
And three or four wipes should do it...
A clean butt is a happy butt...

Hey All,
Did a minor overhaul last night. I had so many amps that I decided it was time to scale down and move up. The Rebel 20 apparently had issues that even their service couldn't fix properly so it was time to get rid of it. I went to GC as they were giving additional discount and traded the Dano 12 string I got last year, the Vox Pathfinder, the Pignose G40L, and the Egnater Rebel 20. I left with a Mesa Transatlantic TA-15. It's a nice little amp. Good cleans for it's size and great dirt too. My only issue is that is was the floor demo. Usually I don't mind that as they made the price right but when I got home I realized that it should have come with a gig bag and a pedal. Went back today and they don't seem to have it. I don't care about the bag but since this is a 2 channel amp the pedal is important. The manager is out until Tuesdays so I don't know what they will do. It might have to go back based on principal.

They already discounted it as much as they can. Manger will be in on Tues. I'll see what happens then. If not, I have another amp in mind. One must always plan ahead.

I just got the Ibanez Artcore AS73 that I bought on ebay a couple of weeks ago in a moment of weakness. Nice guitar. I think it's going to get the Gibson 57 Classic set that I have. It needs a good setup. But that's normal for a used guitar.

That's a great guitar for the Gibson classics. I had them in my old AS73 and put a set in my AG75.
