The Official Jack's Place 2017 NHL Thread!

One thing that is sure - if Pittsburgh would have had the Marc Andre Fleury from any other year, then Washington would have won.

That's hockey.

Pens over Sens in 6.

Preds over Ducks in 6.

Pens over Preds in 5.

It pains me to post this, and I have never wanted to be more wrong.....

Not sure about the Pens over the Preds if it gets there. The Preds are as fast a team I think. The Pens have been beating teams with their speed but that won't be as big as an advantage in that matchup.

If the Penguins repeat as champs, I'm ready to label them as the most mediocre "world champ" pro sports team since my ultra-lucky 2013 Boston Red Sox.

Yeah, two years in a row. I'm just not seeing a lot of great hockey these playoffs. I watched (should say, tried to stay awake through) that Pens-Sens game, and much as I despise the Penguins, I can't say it's all their fault.

I keep seeing a lot of hockey that is reminding me more and more of bad soccer (football for you Old Worlde MWGFers). Lots of neutral zone "skills" being utilized to little goal scoring effect. Crosby is the anti-christ, but at this point I almost miss seeing ANY fancy-dan stickhandling.

I'm seeing "first line forwards" fanning on shots in the slot by missing the goal by 10 feet.

Check out the Preds.
I can't find a hole in their game right now.

I am hoping that Ottawa can pull off 3 more victories against Pittsburgh. If they can't, I will hope for whichever team makes it from the West. Nashville would be a pleasant change having never been in the finals before.

I also have a friend who is a longtime Nashville resident, and diehard Preds fan. He was a season ticket holder from the first year, for many years. He's going out of his mind these days, and I'm happy for him.

Kinda standing by what I am seeing, though. In the past, you'd see the odd playoff game that was 6-1 or 7-3 ... no more. I'm not so simple that I "just want more goals," I want to see better offensive talent. Seems like the scoring I see these days is all from lengthy set ups and / or deflections in front of the net ... I miss seeing talented players rush up-ice and score. And the whole rhythm of the game seems just slower.

For me hockey was fun to watch because there were so many momentum swings. Not so much these days IMO.
