I wrote this on question-and-answer website Quora in response to the question: "Does Trump have the chance to be a great president like Reagan?""
You start with a false premise: that Reagan was a great president. That is fiction. The Reagan administration was the most scandal-plagued outfit to occupy the Executive Branch since … well, since ever. Including frickin' Nixon.

But then the Iran-Contra affair arose, and when all the evidence was in, I felt shocked and betrayed that the people I had supported and voted for turned out to be part of a criminal enterprise, illegally selling weapons to America’s enemies in Iran, and then sending the proceeds to support anti-leftist death squads in South America, in direct violation of US and international law.

Y’know, the term “Treason!” is oft thrown about by ignorant political blowhards who don't know the meaning of the word … but treason is very clearly and narrowly defined in Article III, Sec III of the Constitution:
This is a thing that should be known: Too many people believe the false GOP propaganda that Reagan was a great president. In reality, his administration flat-out plotted, suborned, aided, abetted, committed, and then tried to cover up literal treason.
Traitors. They were a pack of fucking traitors.
So does the Trump administration have a chance to equal or surpass the Reagan administration in the Presidential Corruption Hall of Shame?
Yes.
Reagan administration scandals - Wikipedia
The presidency of Ronald Reagan in the United States was marked by multiple scandals, resulting in the investigation, indictment, or conviction of over 138 administration officials, the largest number for any U.S. president.
My first presidential vote was for Ronald Reagan’s ‘84 reelection, when I was a politically naive and ill-informed 19 year old US Army cavalry scout stationed in W. Germany.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
What the Reagan administration had engaged in was the literal definition of treason, not ignorant hyperbole. Literal treason. The administration was filled with literal traitors and literal criminals. This is a thing that should be known: Too many people believe the false GOP propaganda that Reagan was a great president.
