Trump is brilliant. He is going to get his wall and Mexico will pay for it. Except Mexico is going to build it to keep us out after he destroys the country. That must have been his plan all along.

Republican senators: “Y'all, it’s completely inappropriate to appoint a new Supreme Court justice during a presidential campaign!!!!” As of January 20, 2017, Trump is campaigning.
it's all about the money. sure the fucktard wants to prez for ever. but because of the filing, he can "accept campaign contributions" as a "candidate". so the money keeps flowing. we can only hope (and they have indicated they will) the Koch brothers are going to fight him. uber uber rich republicans fighting the republican president.

From an attorney friend's FB feed:

Here's some Good news to share!!
For everyone who DID something, small or big, your efforts have been successful. Because of you:
1. Federal hiring freeze is reversed for VA (Veteran Affairs).
2. Court order Partial stay of the immigration ban for those with valid visas.
3. Green card holders can get back in country.
4. Uber pledges $3M and immigration lawyers for its drivers after #DeleteUber trends on Twitter.
5. Obamacare (Affordable Care Act) enrollment ads are still going to air.
6. The ACLU raised 24M over the weekend (normally 3-4Mil/year).
7. HHS, EPA, USDA gag order lifted.
8. EPA climate data no longer scrubbed from website.
9. More people of different career/religious/economic/race backgrounds are considering running for political office than ever before.
10. MOST importantly, since we live in a participatory democracy, the people are engaged.
While more is needed, sometimes you have to celebrate your wins.
Stay vigilant, but also take self care seriously. Activist burnout is a thing. Marathon, don't sprint.

WRT helping out, as suggested in my post above,

My wife and I went to a 100 things/Womens' March meeting last night in our little town. There were about 50 people there, mostly women, who were informed and organized, and ready to help inform the attendees of practical, simple things that can continue to be done. Some discussion of advocacy burnout as well. I am going to start small, and just make some calls to the provided numbers for my state and local folks. Also, I think I will sign up for the Daily Action thing and try to do the indicated thing regularly. They make it easy.

Daily Action
30 mins ·
Today's Daily Action is to call the Customs and Border Protection office at a randomly selected US airport to demand that they follow the law of the land (the Immigration and Naturalization Act) and fully comply with all of the judicial orders that have been issued about the recent executive order banning the entry of Muslims and refugees into the United States.

Ask the officers point-blank if they are currently detaining any travelers.
Ask them if they have anyone in custody who does not have access to a lawyer (and report back on what you hear).

They are probably used to fielding calls about package deliveries from FedEx and DHL—but let them know that there will be NO BUSINESS AS USUAL with so many lives as well as our core freedoms and values at stake.

To sign up for Daily Action alerts, text the word DAILY to 228466 today! To make calls without subscribing, just dial 844 241 1141 to be connected.

My completely uninformed opinion is that Gorsuch is as qualified as Garland. Their names both begin with G and are seven letters long.

It looks like his ideology is exactly what you'd expect from this administration at this point....a big strategic question for the dems is do they want to try and make a stand with this nomination (which everyone knew wasn't going to be a mainstream pick to replace a staunch conservative vacancy) or do you want to make your stand on the next potential nomination which will be most likely replacing a more liberal justice when the time comes. It's not like DJT is going to nominate Garland if the other G isn't confirmed.

I know I've said this before in this thread, but I think the country is too divided and I don't think it can come back. I think we should dissolve the union and break off into 2 or 3 countries.

Yes, he filed for the 2020 election so he can accept "campaign donations" for the next 4 years.
If you donate enough money, you can directly influence Presidential policy.

I am leaning towards favoring saving the big fight for the next appointment. Maybe the makeup of the Senate will be more favorable then.
