OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

I don't see how that is any scarier than giving complete control to insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and medical centers who are trying to make a profit off your illness.

Both are scary. I think my comment is based on the behind the scenes fear that once the government does take control, if it doesn't work out we don't get it back. Probably irrational and cynical but goes back to that lack of confidence in the current political climate where everything is about our team winning instead of leading a country of, for, and by the people. Like passing legislation but having to add damaging concessions hidden inside so the other party will give you the votes. But yeah, as a wise man named Howard once said, fuck insurance companies.

United States law already prohibits the use of American taxpayer dollars to be used for abortion services anywhere, including in countries where abortion is legal. But this order, known by critics as the global gag rule, takes it further. It freezes United States funding to health care providers in poor countries if they include abortion counseling or if they advocate the right to seek abortion in their countries.

Coming as one of Mr. Trump’s first orders, it was likely to please the anti-abortion lobby at home. But critics say it also symbolizes the new administration’s defiance of the women’s reproductive rights movement, an important force in the weekend protest marches in Washington and other cities that followed Mr. Trump’s inauguration.

Wasn't this also a policy of W?

I am sure that someone has mentioned this already but...they don't care if the medical insurance works or not. They don't care if a person can barely afford $100 per month yet has to pay a $4000 deductible in a health crisis. They don't care. The system is set up to partially appease some people and have the rhetoric of the leaders keep the people arguing about what would be better. Until the people in the USA get their 2nd amendment stuff together and overthrow the people who stole their freedom (their 'leaders') then it will keep going on and the two sides will continue to become more polarized (if you can imagine 'more'). This isn't just about insurance, but about being slaves to banks and big business, rights when rights really matters and the foul taste of (false) freedom, etc.

I am no Trump supporter. He's a whacko. Hillary may or may not be a whacko but she's an elite squillionaire like Trump and the thing that Trump has over the Hillary camp is this: He's obviously a person who doesn't care what people think so...along the lines of racism (everyone calls Trump a racist): the last (how many?) years of USA administrations have been sending soldiers overseas to kill people due to interests of a political/financial/commodity nature. He did say that he'd nuke ISIS but will he actually do that or pull out of the ridiculous military BS that the USA has been involved in? The point is...it seems like a bunch of people are offended that this guy may have some racist attitudes but his predecessors have been KILLING a bunch of non-whites for decades. I'd rather be called a "x" than be killed for oil (or whatever).

Wasn't this also a policy of W?

St. Ron up through President Obama's repeal when he took office.

IIRC the irony here is that the WHO estimates that abortion rates increase due to this as a result of the unintended consequence that it seems to haves an impact on all family planning counseling.

edit: correction, it was also repealed by Clinton then restored by GWB

It shouldn't be an either or proposition. You shouldn't be called "x" or killed for oil (or whatever).

I completely agree but it seems to me that one is of an exponentially higher degree of intensity than the other.
If the oil was in England, would they have invaded and gone to war with white Brits and lied about W.O.M.D.?

Killing a bunch of non-white people over lies seems substantially more racist than what I have seen of Trump so far. Snoop Dog was invited to his roast panel a couple of years ago...wtf?

In one instance, you're being killed now. In the other, your children will hold signs in their adulthood that say "I can't believe I still have to protest this shit".

If the oil was in England, there would have been an American occupation during WWII and we would still be there.

Obviously a little different than occupation. But America doesn't like to leave the party.

I like how HP put it:

WASHINGTON ― On Monday, surrounded by other white men, President Donald Trump signed an anti-abortion executive order that has far-reaching consequences for women’s reproductive health access worldwide.

I like how Pence is there, looking like "You had better print all of the letters so it's valid".
