OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

I really feel depressed and angry today. I can't bring myself to watch the inauguration... it's too raw, too real right now. I've got a packed restaurant to cook for in a few hours, a mountain of prep work that needs to be done, and right now I just kinda want to sit in my chair and pet my dog. :(
Same.

I can understand someone who believes in less government or having conservative values but the embracing of ignorance, the kind of racism that pretends to not be racist (by picking on the elements that makes another class of people who they are or what they are dealing with as a matter of situation without naming them directly) or the complete inability to separate their religion from the government of this country as it was originally conceived makes me sad and angry. And to use all of those elements to justify hiring someone for the job of president just because they want their team to win regardless of the effect on our country as a whole is something else I can't understand.

I really wish that education had a higher priority in our culture because I still feel that this would have never of happened this way. I could care less if the president were democrat or republican as long as they were qualified to handle one of the most powerful positions in the world but both major parties put forward horrible choices. I have voted both ways over the course of my adult life, as I would guess some of you have.

I can rehash this entire thread over and over again and still not understand while completely understanding the results of this election. I was watching a small portion of the inauguration coverage this morning with a strong sense of foreboding and I'm not exactly sure what it is in particular that I'm nervous about. The effect of Trump on this country for the next generation or more? For sure. The possibility (or probability) that the Democrats will continue digging a hole that will render themselves effectively irrelevant? The fact that passions are so close to a flashpoint that some idiot on either side will take a shot at Trump or blow up another building with fertilizer? That the international community will see this time in our history of one of such disarray and incompetent leadership that they will start taking advantage of that fact economically, politically, militarily? Or that terrorist groups will start pushing harder if they sense that the intelligence community and the political leadership of this country are not communicating or working effectively?

I could go on and on. I am not someone who reads every bit of the news every day or is actively political but I am fairly well read in terms of the history of the last couple of hundred years and what I see unfolding today makes me very uncomfortable.

Anyway, sorry for the TL;DR - I just wanted to vent before I went to Namm and was made a whole other kind of grouchy.

I agree with all of that. I know for me, had any other of the republican candidates (except for Carson or Fiorina) gotten the nomination and won, I would have been over it and looking forward to 2020 when we had another go at it, but Trump is a total disaster and I can't fathom how anyone who is still engaged in all of this can say otherwise. DeVos shows he has no clue what he is doing.

From my newsfeed. Someone who I used to play in a band with, moved to Texas and became a completely different person.

What.... the... FUCK? What scandals? This was probably the least Scandal filled White House in the past several generations.

WEAKENED military? So we're only spending as much as the next SEVEN other countries instead of 18 like it used to be?

It's so difficult to even come to a middle ground when so many people have such a skewed vision of reality.

When Obama took office and people were protesting, it was things like "He's going to introduce Muslim Law" or "He's coming for all our guns" or bankrupting the country or whatever bs..... NONE of which was even remotely true, not even 8 years later.

The people protesting Drumpf are protesting the THINGS HE'S DOING RIGHT NOW IN FRONT OF EVERYONE's FACES... but his supporters are still waving their (made in China) Amurrican flags and their (made in China) Make Amurrica Great hats. :annoyed:

Alrighty then-

10 of the key promises Trump made for his first day as president:

—Introduce a constitutional amendment for congressional term limits.

—Freeze hiring for the federal government to reduce payrolls, although the military, public safety and public health agencies would be exempt.

—Ban White House and congressional officials from becoming lobbyists for five years after they leave the government.

—Announce plans to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada and Mexico or withdraw from the deal.

—Formally withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

—Lift restrictions on mining coal and drilling for oil and natural gas.

—Remove any Obama-era roadblocks to energy projects such as the Keystone XL pipeline.

—Cancel U.S. payments to U.N. climate change programs and redirect the money to U.S. water and environmental infrastructure.

—Stop all federal funding to "sanctuary cities," places where local officials don't arrest or detain immigrants living in the country illegally for federal authorities.

—Suspend immigration from regions associated with terrorism where vetting is difficult.

To be fair though it's TGIF and half off wings, so I'll give him the weekend.
