How does this square with their 2am votes to take provisions away? Where is the replacement he's talking about?

http://www.mediaite.com/online/paul...ncerned-about-health-care-immigration-reform/

The first, a cancer patient named Jeff Jeans — a longtime Republican who worked on the campaign’s of Presidents Reagan and Bush, told Ryan he was a Republican opposed to Obamacare, but then shared his story and said, “Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, I’m standing here today alive.” He even personally thanked President Obama, furthering, “I want to thank President Obama from the bottom of my heart because I would be dead if it weren’t for him.” Jeans expressed to Ryan that he doesn’t understand why Republicans would want to repeal the law without a replacement.

Ryan argued that Republicans do want to replace it with something better; with a law that’s not “destroying the rest of the health care system for everybody else.” He listed off issues with Obamacare like rising premiums and said, “The worst is yet to come.”

Jake Tapper jumped in to ask whether the attempt to repeal Obamacare will coincide with the replacement efforts. Ryan said, “We want to do this at the same time.”

The other two exchanges in the video above concern immigration reform from mothers with very different takes on the matter.

It's the republican version of 'don't ask, don't tell'.

Seems to me they don't want to tell you what their plan is because the pubic would shit a brick if they realized they just want to give it back to the insurance industry to deal with.

This underscores some of the giant uphill challenge; many people do not see a value health insurance coverage until they actually need it. Just imagine if car insurance was optional....how many people would drop their car insurance immediately?

Given Canada's existing approval requirements & pharmaceutical safety track record, that defense is really weak. No surprise that most of those Dems voting against the bill represent states w/ heavy pharma industry & are among the highest recipients of campaign money from pharma companies. Booker better watch out, progressives might figure out he's not really the guy you want leading the charge.

Three points...

1). Though Canada's requirements may be high enough for you, the bill opens up our market to drugs from a great many countries other than Canada. Countries whose standards are not very high at all.

2). A bill requiring that identical medications be sold in the US at the same price as they are sold in Canada...exchange rate, yadda yadda...would be far more effective addressing your concerns.

3). Knee-jerk ideological purity tests is how we ended up with the Tea Party, Bernie Bros and, by extension, the Trump Administration.

Could you link me some additional detail on the specifics? None of the articles I read this AM have addressed this point

Ever look into Bookers track record?

dude is bashing obamacare, yet doesn't realize he is enrolled in obamacare and will lose his insurance if the people he voted for get their way.

Here's an interesting article about Health Canada and some of the serious issues they've had with sub-standard medications from Asia.

Not really super familiar with Bookers record, but Im not interested in a witch-hunt against him because he didn't support this bill.

I see these two in the bill. 178 is limited to Canada and 172 specifies 'safe & affordable'

SA 178. Ms. KLOBUCHAR (for herself and Mr. Sanders) submitted an
amendment intended to be proposed by her to the concurrent resolution
S. Con. Res. 3, setting forth the congressional budget for the United
States Government for fiscal year 2017 and setting forth the
appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2018 through 2026; as
follows:

At the end of title III, add the following:

SEC. 3___. DEFICIT-NEUTRAL RESERVE FUND RELATING TO LOWERING
PRESCRIPTION DRUG PRICES FOR AMERICANS BY
IMPORTING DRUGS FROM CANADA.

The Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate
may revise the allocations of a committee or committees,
aggregates, and other appropriate levels in this resolution
for one or more bills, joint resolutions, amendments,
amendments between the Houses, motions, or conference reports
relating to lowering prescription drug prices, including
through the importation of safe and affordable prescription
drugs from Canada by American pharmacists, wholesalers, and
individuals with a valid prescription from a provider
licensed to practice in the United States, by the amounts
provided in such legislation for those purposes, provided
that such legislation would not increase the deficit over
either the period of the total of fiscal years 2017 through
2021 or the period of the total of fiscal years 2017 through
2026.

I wouldn’t want my life to depend on Indian drugs. India is one of the most corrupt nations on Earth. Gangsters going into politics and MPs voting from jail is just considered normal in some parts of India. Bribery and rent-seeking are a way of life. Indian drug companies practically invented internet drug dealing back when they were selling fake Pfizer penis pills in the early 2000s. I could see using drugs made by American companies in India if they’re keeping Americans on-site to run the place, but otherwise forget it.

Of course drugs would be significantly less expensive if we had single payer health care and drug companies didn’t have to carry the burden of health insurance…

Welp, looks like I've failed the purity test too. Bring on the cheap Indian scrips!!!

No, just disappointed that rather than discuss a non-binding amendment to a non-binding budget resolution to import drugs & a Democratic Senator trying to take a leadership role in the party you went dismissive and condescending.

w/r/r the proposed amendment, as I understand, it's role is largely symbolic; if it were to pass, it indicates there is support for introducing a later bill that would expand on the amendment & detail the importation & would not be opening the floodgates to unsafe pharmaceuticals. Corey Booker is moving into a leadership role in the Democratic party and having lived not too far from his home district, I've had the pleasure of seeing him on the news constantly, doing every symbolic cat in a tree gesture possible when the cameras are rolling then turning around & diverting badly needed funds from Newark public schools into vouchers.

He's one of the Democrats that has the image power & the charisma to have a legitimate shot in 4 years and I'd rather he doesn't turn out to be another disappointment that talks a good progressive game but never backs it up with action. I want democrats to let him know that on a national level he is going to need to take stock in what the party supporters want as he takes a position on issues. When he does decide to split, not duck out on why.

Precisely.
