OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

I posted a couple days ago on that announcement and quickly deleted it because the discussion gets a little too finespun rather quickly; yeah the jobs are part of the broader softbank strategy that was announced way before the election and there's still going to be domestic sprint layoffs but the USA CEO made a point to really snuggle up to Donald Trump, giving him credit for these specific jobs and doubled down on it while Sprint is being a little dodgy about it all.

.......Which is kinda similar to the Carrier deal and Ford's earlier decision about moving the focus production to mexico & just recently announcing investing in the flat rock plant for electric car production. Fields seems to still want to throw Trump a bone even though both decisions were entirely business decisions based on today's market. Granted, it's not in the best interest of their companies to publicly tell Trump to go suck it but it seems like everyone is hedging their bets & want to curry favor early.

This may be the beginning of a new way to get influence in politics. Trump has shown that campaigns don’t need the expensive consulting teams and ad campaigns people were relying on. They just need figureheads who know how to manipulate the media in our clickbait culture. Businesses that want to curry favor might need to rely less on campaign contributions and more on flattery of one kind or another.

Today, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his intentions to make public colleges in New York free for families earning less than $125,000. Many are behind the announcement, some are in uproar. I'm one of those people who thinks education and health care should be free, so I'm all for it. And if he does do it, I'll reconsider my position to vote against incumbents and legacies. But I won't be surprised if the Republicans find an actual candidate to run against him either.

I wish that would happen here in Jersey... But I guess they need income to pay for the nuclear containment.

And that's just from Christie's farts.

Cuomo is going to have massive opposition. There's already cries of "how can we expect people to value higher education if we give it away for free?!" Well, we're giving people at least 13 years of education for free. And those years are mandatory. Those who don't want a higher degree won't pursue one anyway. But let's also not forget that these institutions were free from their inception. For many students that lasted all the way until the mid 70s when both the state and city were in crisis. So you want to make America great again while also catapulting us into the realm of a first world country? Let's start with education.

The Democrats should be framing this as a war. Failure will mean young American scientists and technologists studying in Canada and Germany, and staying there to launch their businesses.

What Democrats should do and their failings therein is the political theme of my life.
