OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

Hey everyone, if Trump had won the popular vote any H-dog had been elected by thanks to the Electoral College would we all be circulating petitions today?

The US govt probably shouldn't use the NFL instant handwringing approach as their model for rule changes.

On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell mostly made nice with Trump but also shot down or expressed little enthusiasm in some of his plans. On Trump's proposal to impose term limits on Congress, McConnell said, "It will not be on the agenda in the Senate." McConnell has been a long-standing opponent of term limits, as NPR's Susan Davis reports. "I would say we have term limits now — they're called elections."

Nice to see we're right on track for politics as usual before he even gets out of the starting gate...not that there was any doubt there.

Killing ACA & a SCOTUS appointment are a slam dunk. The rest?

I am not sure what I think about the term limits idea. My gut instinct is that it's a good thing but I haven't given it enough thought to really form a smart opinion yet.

It has pros and cons, much like everything else...

On the pro side, it would limit the amount of time ineffective congressman and Senators get to take up valuable space...it also would act to reduce the influence levels of the special interest groups...

On the con side it would prevent good leaders from serving extended terms, and would also tend to keep qualified people from running...

You have to determine the balance point for yourself...

I'm all for term limits. 2 terms for Senate, 5 terms for the House. But it'd probably end up something like 5 and 15.

My POV is that the arguments for term limits outweigh the cons but how on earth do you get a group of people who never vote against their self interest, pass it? Aint gonna happen.

I haven't heard anything about recounts in swing states, or anywhere else. Do we just accept the voting results on blind faith...like nothing else we accept in life?

I don't think a recount happens unless one of the candidates calls for it. I could be wrong about that, but I do not believe it is automatic.

The votes get validated by each state...each has its own system for doing that...then the Electoral College validates the election...

Recounts are only done by court order based on suits brought by the candidates...

I posted earlier that the Dems locked themselves out of demanding a recount when they denigrated Trump for not intending to concede if he lost...it would be extremely hypocritical of them to start demanding recounts and contesting the election results now...

Game over...

if a recount in two or three swing states flips the results to Clinton, she wins the EC. (EDIT: let's not equate anti-trump with pro-clinton)

FL + MI
FL + PA
MI + PA + WI

These states were all REALLY close. Surely close enough that the margin lies within the uncertainty range of the count accuracy. But hey, mathematics and science and risk management and common sense seem to have no place in this country anymore.

Also, fuck you Florida.
