OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

Just because I don't follow politics doesn't mean I'm oblivious to how pathetic this country is run...
Maybe if my "say" actually made a difference I'd be more interested. It doesn't matter what any of us votes on, this system is fucked and it will continue to be fucked until long after we are all dead.

I think what he was saying is a large part of the country pays no attention to politics, issues or the candidates then they head to the polls and select either the democrat or the republican depending on their party. If everyone followed things would be different.

For example, when I lived in Florida, everyone in my office was a republican. They were all saying how glad they were Rick Scott (the republican candidate) won the election for governor until he actually was sworn in and started doing things. Then they started bitching and I laughed out loud and they asked why. First, Rick Scott is a world class douchebag, but I will give him credit for one thing. He followed through on his campaign promises, too bad the people voting for never bothered to see what his plans were. Had those people bothered to check into the issues instead of basing their vote on their party affiliation of the negative campaign ads on tv or the radio, the election may have turned out differently.

I didn't intend to come across as being pissed off or something at anyone....apologies if I came across that way.

I didn't see your comments out of line. I really wish more people would be willing to talk about politics. If we all (I'm not saying here on the forum, but out in the real world) stick to no talking about religion or politics, the country stays the same.

Thanks, I didn't see it either. But like I said, I don't really follow politics and I know that a lot of people feel strongly about certain things. I wasn't trying to get anyone riled up. I truly meant my op as a legitimate question.

I think on some level, at least at the beginning this is why many people were drawn to Trump. He seemed un-buyable. He since has been digging his own grave but that's another story.
Today's politicians are easily bought. If I were a politician and had big dollars being thrown at me, would I do it any different....honestly idk.
So, the logic there being to not vote for the candidate that can be bought but vote for the candidate that has been doing the buying? Cutting out the middleman? Sounds like an even worse version of the problem.

My personal policy for everybody is "fuck you". If somebody tried to bribe me my response would be a professional version of "D-Generation X has two words for you! SUCK IT!!!"

It's pretty crappy that those are our choices....

The system is "fucked" because everyone has the attitude that their vote doesn't matter, so a very small group of people make all the decisions.

Bell, California is a town of around 39,000 residents. In a 2005 special election, fewer than 400 votes were cast- that means roughly 1% of the population voted on a measure that would exempt the town from a state law capping salaries for municipal governments. In reality the percentage was even less than that, because it has since been discovered that widespread vote fraud occurred. Unsurprisingly, the city council immediately raided the town coffers (including a whopping 47% pay raise to city administrator Robert Rizzo) and jacked taxes to pay for it. If even 1 out of every 50 citizens of Bell had educated themselves about the measure and showed up to vote, it would have been easily defeated.

It's not even about your individual vote, either- we live in a soundbite culture where facts are often distorted and the "Big Lie" theory holds true. There are examples in this very thread of otherwise intelligent, engaged people who have fallen victim to decades of propaganda that is easily disproven, but since it's repeated so often it's accepted as fact. If your father/cousin/friend says to you "I don't like Donald Trump, but I don't trust Hillary either- she was thrown off the Watergate commission and just yesterday the FBI started investigating her emails again," that sounds pretty reasonable. If you'd followed the Godfather Of Soul's advice to Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved though, you'd know he'd been fed flat-out lies:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...inton-was-fired-during-the-watergate-inquiry/

http://www.snopes.com/2016/10/28/fbi-reopening-clinton-e-mail-investigation/

So not only would your vote be unaffected by that particular propaganda, but with that information, your dad/cousin/friend might just start questioning the "facts" that enter their particular personal paradigms, and start evaluating political ads/emails/memes more critically.

I have a question:
First of all I don't follow politics so I really couldn't make a political stance if anyone were to call me out on shit.....
That being said,
We all know that our system of government is completely fucked up. Every single American knows this....
Why is there absolutely nothing we can do to change the system? We all bitch about it but what can we DO about it?
Like I said, I know shit about politics but it just seems crazy that millions of Americans can't take back the system from a few hundred crooked politicians.... are they THAT powerful?

That's the problem, it isn't fucked up. It actually was working quite well (at least before the Republicans decided their only job was to block the Democrats on every possible front). It is far from perfect, but it does work, and it is improving.

For 40 years, we've had both sides telling us the country is in a horrible mess, and it is the other team's fault. The problem is that we've come to believe them. So much so that half the country is ready to vote for someone as obviously ill suited for the presidency as Donald Trump. Half the people of this country literally believe things couldn't get worse, so voting for an "outsider" is the only way to fix things.

Has that FBI fellah been on any TV news yet to explain why he clearly is trying to influence the election?

This will be made into a film in the future, however it would be impossible to get this much 'theatre' into the average length of time of a film.
