It cannot be said enough--the US does not have a left in national politics. It desperately needs one.
Yes, to an extent, I agree. In some areas more (I would say much more) what would be traditionally labeled as "left" is needed. But labeling stuff as left, or further left or far left, and the same things on the right to me is both inaccurate in terms of discussion of, and identification of, policies aimed at solving or at least improving or dealing with, oncoming issues. Even saying it is purple instead of red and blue is not helpful. Identifying an issue, getting data and science, discussing possible solutions, getting laws made if necessary to accomplish, are not as simple as a color chart or setting on a balance knob.

Certainly, the issues are more important than the labels. But the labels are a large stumbling block. Democrats are so afraid of being labeled "liberal" or "leftist" that they've basically become Republican-lite. Obama is a centrist; Hillary is practically a neo-con. But because the Republican party has been allowed to frame the narrative for so long (and the entire party has moved from conservative to bat-shit wingnut), the Republican base dismisses anything left of far-right as socialism/communism/America-hating/God-hating/etc. The Democratic party needs many more Bernies (though not actually a dem) and Elizabeth Warrens, who will actually stand up for the liberal policies the party is supposed to espouse. I think the voters crave it--young people, minorities, women, LGBTQ, atheists/free-thinkers, etc. I truly believe Bernie would have won the general election had he gotten the nomination. Every time Democrats lose big, they say, "We have to move to the center, work with our Republican colleagues, blah blah." No, they need to move way left and commit to it.

this "tremendous border security" and " we need the wall".....isn't this exactly what East Germany did after WWII?

The wall was built in ‘61 after years of back and forth provocations between the powers backing the West and East ..and because Kennedy didn’t really do himself or NATO any favors with his negotiating ploys.

Fun fact, the commies called the wall the Anti-Fascist Protection Wall in German.

Breaking News:
Federal judge jails ex-Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort ahead of trial

Had come here to post that just after sleewell, but my computer was too slow. Here is the NYT link I was going to post.

This is part of my point above. At a certain level, or after a certain point, legal standards still apply. The rule of law is not dead completely, at least not yet. Conspiracy theory-esque opinions do not generally matter before federal and/or state judges.

you should like this one too. unanimous ruling against him.

New York's highest court rejects President Trump's bid to delay defamation lawsuit
http://markweinguitarlessons.com/fo...dy-mk-iii-the-search-for-spock.88199/page-154

"New York’s highest court on Thursday rejected President Trump’s bid to delay the defamation lawsuit brought against him by former “The Apprentice” contestant Summer Zervos.

The Court of Appeals, in a brief, unanimous ruling, denied a motion brought by Trump’s lawyers seeking to put trial proceedings on hold while a lower appellate court weighs the question of whether a sitting President can be sued in state court.

“Motion for leave to appeal dismissed upon the ground that the order sought to be appealed from does not finally determine the action,” the court stated."

He's a problem -- and a big one -- but he's not the problem. The problem is something like "treating stupidity as though its has the same value as non-stupidity" or "giving objectively vile positions anything except ridicule and scorn in the public forum".

Republicans are doing that because of Trump. They were so desperate to have a president in office after 8 years of Obama that they'll overlook anything. All of these illogical racists in American society have always been there, they just feel empowered to have a voice.

This is silly. Trump is a problem, but to act as if partisan rancor and inside Capitol Hill baseball aren’t longstanding issues is foolish.

I’ll even venture as far as to say there is a “Deep State” of lifelong bureaucrats, semi-private lobbying interests, big donors, and clandestine elements within the military and intelligence apparatuses that direct policy but who are not directly accountable.

Trump is bad, but Trump is not the cause of and solution to all of life’s problems.

Most pols simply make sure to cloak their cruelty and duplicity in contradiction and waffling. They don’t start out building concentration camps. They do bad things and then act like it was the weather and how could we have known.

Yes, you've made this view clear. But I'm not really clear on whether you were old enough or interested in politics enough to remember what it was like before Obama. That's when the Republican party decided to not work together with their counterparts in Congress in an unprecedented fashion. That had never happened before, to that extent, in US history. You've grown up during an anomaly. If you don't remember William F. Buckley Jr. or Jean Kirkpatrick or Reagan (not from documentary films) then you don't really have a clear perspective.
