Achtung! Will Smith just got FERSH at the Oscers did u see that, he slapped The Rock and yelled the f word

Joking about someone’s physical appearance just isn’t acceptable, and that’s especially true if the joke is public and for an audience of millions. It just isn’t. (This clearly does not apply to camouflage or MAGA hats, which are fair game.)

Rock’s joke was stupid and inappropriate. He was a fucking idiot and an asshole last night……

Both of those guys behaved badly, and their behaviours were both insulting to sick people.

But physical assault is another level, and Will Smith should have been escorted or man-handled the fuck out of the building by security staff without a second thought.

Exactly.

An illustration of when someone lets their emotions take over and their escalating just makes the entire situation worse.

And there’s a special layer in Hell for people who mock the appearance of those who are battling cancer.

Didn’t even know he was up for the role in Batman.

It's amazing that Smith wasn't removed immediately from the venue when that happened. Thats what would happen in pretty much any other situation. Someone assaults ME onstage in a dive bar and the security would have them planted on the floor waiting for the local cops. To do it on live television broadcast worldwide and let the man participate in the rest of the night and let him accept an award?

To give the punchline to your joke: Michelle Williams and Charlize Theron.....

... but I've read elsewhere that image is when they read the wrong name for LaLa Land (hence Emma Stone's look).
Nope. Not them. Second row, black guy on the left. Bottom row, white chick on the left. Unless that’s Williams. Of all in the picture I can name 5.

After looking again, possibly Mel Gibson as well.

Okay, I'll concede Charlize for that guy... and the bottom row is Michelle Williams. She started in Dawson's Creek, was in a ton of movies including Brokeback Mountain, and was married to Heath Ledger until he died.

I thought it was odd when I saw that Will chuckled at the joke and Jada winced... then the camera cuts back to the stage, and that's when it escalated.
That was my immediate take away as well. He seemed to be laughing along with Chris, then he's up on stage smacking him. Weird. I guess he noticed that Jada didn't think it was funny? Who knows. In any case, not worthy of physical assault. But I guess when you're a powerful Hollywood player, you can do what you want.

Ok. So. I’ve been relatively open here about my own experiences with cancer. That’s been my life since early 2008, back when most people on the planet had no idea who Barack Obama was.

I’ve done a fair amount of advocacy work for brain tumour groups and, especially, young adult cancer groups in the 14 years since. I know literally thousands of survivors in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.

I’d guess that almost all of them have gotten inappropriate jokes from strangers or acquaintances about their bodies that were directly related to cancer or cancer treatments. Baldness, scars, rashes, swelling, steroid bloat, sweatiness, disabilities, deformity, etc.

Wanna guess how many of those people ever physically assaulted someone in response?

Both of those guys behaved badly, and their behaviours were both insulting to sick people.

It seems like shock was allowed to settle, and then no one moved to do anything about it until those with power to call it decided not to, as it would upset the party. Like when the weird uncle at the family Easter dinner says something really hurtful to someone, but the matriarch enforces order and decorum because of some bullshit. This is what I think in hindsight.

The best remark I heard later was the person who announced some presenters or something, I forget who. That person said something about getting those two together after and working through those grievances like family, but now, we are moving forward in love. At least that person recognized that that was not ok.

But in my mind, a bad look for the Academy to let that just go like that. We want accountability under the law, we keep saying it in this thread. I don’t know. Just kinda hard to believe he basically got away with it. I see now in the headlines Chris Rock is not pressing charges. Guessing Will will be, and feel, tarnished for a long time now. Well, he earned it. And I agree that that joke, focusing on someone’s appearance in that way, was very inappropriate.

I am glad CODA did well. I liked that movie.
