Achtung! Will Smith just got FERSH at the Oscers did u see that, he slapped The Rock and yelled the f word

Wow indeed! I thought it was all staged. The audio was muted for me. I thought Chris Rock was funny. Even after the punch.
Really good Oscars this year.

Bunch of toxic masculinity that fucked up the night for a lot of other people. Didn’t think the joke was very good, and apparently Jada has alopecia, though I have no idea if Rock knew that. And I am not a big fan of his style of humor anyway. But shit, that was just dumbassery. And Smith’s speech after, even if I felt for him a bit as he spoke, did not really make it better. His referencing protecting people as a justification over and over, and then bringing another family’s dad into it, was pretty cringey.

I thought it was odd when I saw that Will chuckled at the joke and Jada winced... then the camera cuts back to the stage, and that's when it escalated.

Here's the full, unedited exchange:

But then Will apologized to those in attendance (but not to Chris Rock) for his outburst during his award acceptance speech.

So obviously when the camera cut away, Jada was more than displeased with the joke, so I did a little googling.....

Her new appearance isn't shaving her head for a role, but instead she announced a little while ago that she has alopecia (hair loss) and today there is more discussion regarding that aspect of the exchange: https://www.cnn.com/style/article/jada-pinkett-smith-alopecia-oscars-controversy/index.html

One could write it off as "out of touch celebrities over-reacting and then apologizing for their tantrums...."

Except barely a week ago I was at a vigil for a middle school girl who went to a nearby district... she had alopecia and once school started she was bullied. Some kids pulled her wig off and hit her up the side of the head.... and when she couldn' t take the bullying any more, she committed suicide. She was only 12.

So I'm not giving will a pass for escalating to violence..... but more to point out that this is another issue that doesn't get much discussion, there's so much media and advertising for "feminine beauty" that it must be overwhelming for women and girls who suddenly have this challenged forced into the open.

Honestly, it gives me a huge new respect for Jada Pinkett Smith as displays how beautiful a bald woman can be, despite struggling with it internally. Their family is constantly scrutinized for their polyamorous sex life, the roles they take and pass on, and even their kids in the spotlight... but on this subject, my heart goes out to her and hopefully the next little girl who is feeling stripped of her beauty because of a condition, can look at someone like Jada and realize where beauty comes from. It does not come from the clothing, hair, and makeup alone... those are the ornaments for the human face and body

Joking about someone’s physical appearance just isn’t acceptable, and that’s especially true if the joke is public and for an audience of millions. It just isn’t. (This clearly does not apply to camouflage or MAGA hats, which are fair game.)

Rock’s joke was stupid and inappropriate. He was a fucking idiot and an asshole last night.

Ok. So. I’ve been relatively open here about my own experiences with cancer. That’s been my life since early 2008, back when most people on the planet had no idea who Barack Obama was.

I’ve done a fair amount of advocacy work for brain tumour groups and, especially, young adult cancer groups in the 14 years since. I know literally thousands of survivors in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.

I’d guess that almost all of them have gotten inappropriate jokes from strangers or acquaintances about their bodies that were directly related to cancer or cancer treatments. Baldness, scars, rashes, swelling, steroid bloat, sweatiness, disabilities, deformity, etc.

Wanna guess how many of those people ever physically assaulted someone in response?

Both of those guys behaved badly, and their behaviours were both insulting to sick people.

But physical assault is another level, and Will Smith should have been escorted or man-handled the fuck out of the building by security staff without a second thought.
