What happened to this place?

I must've missed a lot while I was on vacation.
I enjoy this place as much as when it started.
I also enjoy the political thread, as I'm a bleeding-heart libtard.
I never cared for Kauer guitars, so I guess I'm unaffected by Doug's absence.
The one guy (since Derivicus) whom I actively disliked doesn't come 'round anymore, and that's fine by me.
The other guy who kept getting stomped on in the political thread is just a troll--never really bothered me too much.
I'd very much like to keep hanging here and talking guitars (and other stupid shit) with all you fine folks.
Kinda this, though I feel bad about the Kauer thing. I never noticed much as I don't buy that level of guitar and don't go into threads about Kauer guitars much. I missed the whole thing. But I still feel bad he is apparently gone. (I don't even know why, I missed it.) He seemed like a nice guy to me overall.

Sadly, I've been so caught up with projects and work and whatnot that my head's been kinda up my own ass and I didn't notice him leaving. If he wrote an exit post I assume that it is in a thread that is no longer publicly viewable.

Honestly, I don't understand how anybody can not like Doug, even if they don't like his guitars. The dude is personable as fuck. I'd buy him a beer if he were in Jersey for any reason.

Not quite /THREAD

Parody threads have always had a line to cross. If you don't realize that it is a parody thread and open it, then it is normally a win for the poster and a good thing. In only rare cases, when the poster parodies a thread and from the thread title it is known to be a parody, and the comic content is there - also a positive and a win for the poster.

The problem is that 99.9% of parody threads have none of the above and are not funny, nor are they even slightly amusing. They take up space and aren't of any value other than use of synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, etc.
I have opened very few in my forum time and started one (perhaps a couple more but only one that I recall for sure). Normally if I see a parody thread I just continue looking for something worthwhile.
One of my proudest internet moments was when I tricked someone on HCGJ into thinking they had a typo in their own thread title. BUT THEY REALLY CLICKED ON MY PAROTTY! Oh, I've dined out on that one more than once.

No, he didn't write an exit post, he's a grown-up.

I miss Doug. It was nice to hear from someone who makes guitars. I get that some of the attacks on his designs had a valid basis, but they got ugly at times. At the same time, it’s a guitar forum, and I’ve not shied away from openly disliking the trend of unoriginal booteek offsets and Gibson copies. Like metal guitars and relic guitars, it’s a huge trend that people should discuss.

That's not at all what drove him away, though.

I don't know what happened with Doug K, or why he left. Like others, I always thought he seemed like a nice guy and I thought it was pretty cool to have a custom builder like him hanging out here. I'd love to have one of his guitars, but they're out of my price/skill range. I suspect they're worth every penny.
