The Tattoos of Weinworld

So it turns out I got this on Leo's Birthday - pretty neat coincidence. Healing up well so far...

I'll have something like this on my calf as of next tuesday :embarrassed: With the addition of a cane and handlebar moustache. My first tattoo so I'm not sure what it's gonna be like but apparently calf is one of the nicest places to have one.

The calf is nice... Stay off the shin though (ouch).

Shin isn't that bad (not a walk in the park either ) , just feels weird with the vibrations of the machine running up your leg bones

I think everyone is different - the edge of my shin was pretty tender, ankle area as well. Calf area isn't bad at all though.

Yes, lots of people will experience it differently. Everyone has varying pain tolerance and thresholds to some degree too.

I've been thinking about my next one lately although I need to save my pennies. I've actually been thinking about getting a hei matau which is that traditional hawaian fish hook symbol. Fishing has always been a part of my life and I love traditional, cultural work like that. My only concern is whether it seems hokey getting something that is related to a tribe like that. It has a lot of meaings including good fortune and there are several elements built in so it is cool. Just cant decide if it is proper or not. Also thinking I could change it up and get different elements incorporated into the design instead of the shark, turtle, sun, korus and manta. Not sure if that makes it worse or better.

I know traditional Japonese work is popular but I dont see that as relating to a specific tribe. What do you guys think about traditional tribal like the hei matau?

I don't know, my tattoos are a westernized Japanese style and I don't feel it's disrespectful. As far as the Hei Matau, 90% of the people who see it won't know what it is anyway. Just get what you want and don;t sweat it.

Yeah this. As long as it means something to you, don't worry about it.

There are so many variations on the Hawaiian fish hook anyway I don't think it'll be an issue. Just to be safe though, when surfing the local breaks, don't drop in on Da Hui :thu:
