Hi, Jello!
I imported a pickup i called the Alchymist a few years back. I wanted to revive it. The original used 43 awg wire overwound to 15k, and an Alnico V bar, with hex poles. This one uses 1950s spec Fender wire Heavy Formvar, Wound only to 8k, with Alnico 8 or C8 Ceramic. The Alnico 8 has a midrange spank to it... Sounds like a powerful old school pickup, and the Ceramic 8 sounds thicker and a less mids, more lows. Im in love with this A8, for power. Other colro options will be available. Black, Gold, Chrome, Brushed nickel.. etc. Early thoughts...spanky, lots of harmonic content, especially with overdrive or distortion. Never muddy.
Sounds like a loose wire in the coils...like a winding came loose and it's jumping around...maybe try potting them...I'm trying to figure out a problem with one of my Heritages. I know it's a guitar problem. The pickups break up sometimes and cause amp pops. I think I'm just going to do a total rewire on it. I'll swap the pickups with a set of Gibsons. I'm just waiting for a switch to arrive.
I have to pull them to pot them. I may as well rewire it at the same time to eliminate other possibilities. I already have all of the parts except for a switch. And that's on order. I like the stock Schallers. I really don't want to change them. Thanks for the suggestion.Sounds like a loose wire in the coils...like a winding came loose and it's jumping around...maybe try potting them...
Update on the investor meeting:
He was ecstatic about the property she found and immediately put in a bid. The town gets to vote whether they want a "rehab facility" there. It was formerly a 34 room B&B. It's an amazing building. I told my wife if I had PTSD I'd be cured the minute I walked in the door. Its just gorgeous. Like Passages Malibu type thing.
We're still a long way out even if the town accepts but it's a step in the right direction.
