The Official MWGL Forum 2015-2016 NHL Thread!!!

At this point I'm just hopeful they can become at least entertaining to watch.....

Hopefully we can trade a couple of people away towards the deadline.
I don't think there is ANYBODY on the team I wouldn't at least listen to offers for.

Oh the Flyers. The errors go way back to the death of Pelle Lindbergh. I don't say this lightly because I always liked the Flyers.

The Flyers seemed cursed after Lindbergh's passing as they had a slow growth and then the Eric Lindros trade. WHO the F would give up that much for one player? Well, I guess the Rangers almost did(?). I said it then and I say it now. I am sure that many people looking back wouldn't do it but the phrase "mortgage your future" was around back then. So...here are the Flyers' errors as I see them:

-Lindros trade. Horrible. Gave away much and took forever to recover. Ok...that one is ancient history.
-Medical staff letting Lindros play in the Stanley Cup finals in 2000 or whenever that was when Scott Stevens painted him on the ice.
-Trading Rod Brind'Amour away for Keith Primeau. That was a head-shaker to me. Who the F would trade Rod?
-Instead of going after a premier goaltender for years, they seemed to try to get a wild card that 'might come up big'. It never worked out for them. Big mistake. St Louis Blues have been doing it since Curtis Joseph.
-Acquiring Pronger. Say what you will about his positives but as soon as the NHL decided to stop allowing 3 and 4 cross-checks to the back and arms of players in front of the crease, Pronger was no longer of any value. Not to mention his Edmonton time...there are a lot of signals there - who needs a poison person like that?
-Instead of instilling responsibility and discipline in Richards and Carter, they got rid of them. I thought that was bad at the time and looking back I think it cost the Flyers big. Seriously, they acquire Pronger and trade away these two?
-Trading Hartnell was bad too. If nothing else keep him because he was a fan fav.

I don't know if I should say it but...Clarke shouldn't be in the front office anywhere. Great tough player but who needs an ass like that in administration?

Good lord...Tortorella needs to be run out of Columbus sbefore he buries that franchise even further...

Montreal loses again - LOVE IT!

In other news:
Ovechkin has 499 goals and one was an OT coast-to-coast game winner. Amazing.

This season is aligning quite nicely for the Caps, as there is no real powerhouse in the East now that the Habs have come back to the pack. Tampa has imploded, the Panthers, though talented, are a mirage, and the Rangers and Islanders are still kinda hanging around, but I don't trust them to get past the second round. So, then, low-money risk as it may be, why the hell would they even bother bringing that douchebag Mike Richards into the mix?

Ovechkin still scoring goals!!

Montreal still losing.

Two things to love about the NHL in January 2016.

You know it's sad when you cannot get players to want to come to your team. Yeah, that's how bad it is in Philly.

I wonder how long Giroux is going to want to play for this horrible team? I mean, he's not getting any younger.......he's a good player, but it is tough to be only 1 of 2 really GOOD players on a team.
I wouldn't want to. I'd want to go to a contender.

The Flyers aren't going to be contending for a good number of years yet.

As for trades towards the deadline, there is NO ONE I wouldn't listen to offers for.
I'd package ANYONE (yeah, even Giroux) if it included 2 or 3 of these LOUSY defensemen, and a useless winger or 2.

Get this crap out of here...We need to start over. Really do.

The Flyers have a TON of great defensive prospects, but that's what they are.....prospects.
They're 3 years off before becoming NHL mainstays and being able to make a difference.
Not sure Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds and even Couturier (though he's still very young) have 3 or 4 years to wait, toiling on a shitty team.

I wouldn't want to.

The Leafs have stripped everything back to basically nothing. Some definite mediocrity and hard work but not much beyond that.

Yeah, but they KNOW they're not going to do anything this year, so they're going to rebuild.
That decision has been made.
I admire that.

Fucking Flyers still are holding out like they're going to make the playoffs.
Even if they DID squeak into the playoffs, they're not going anywhere......and I'd be willing to bet they tank before the playoffs when good teams start to hit their groove.

There's no groove to hit in Philly.

Fucking shameful what's become of this team.
We can't even beat anybody up anymore. I mean, seriously, wtf?
Hakstol is doing the best he can with a bunch of sub-par players, but in my opinion he's already over-achieved....there's nowhere to go but down.
Other teams are bigger, faster, more skilled, deeper, and have more heart.

Awful.
These are dark days to be a Flyers fan, man.....I tell you.

You know its bad when the Flyers website extols the accomplishments of their AHL players on the front page (happens regularly).....like that's supposed to make the fans feel good.

Proporov scored a hat trick last night against Wilkes-Barre!
Who the fuck cares?

I mean.....good for him......and he'll be really good when he joins the NHL in another 2 or 3 years, but what the hell does that have to do with the Philadelphia Flyers? Not much. Not much at all at this point.

Man the Caps are killin it.

The Red Wings look pretty good at least. Been a transitional few years.

Agreed, the Caps are probably the best team in the NHL right now.

Of course, "right now" doesn't count.
I do expect Montreal to bounce-back and make a run into the playoffs.

But that's the only competition I see for Washington in the playoffs.
FLA is doing well, but I don't think they have the depth to make an extended run.

Rangers will put up a good fight, though. They're a big, heavy hitting team.....

We'll see what happens.

Bounce back from being the cellar dwellers that they plummeted to after their hot start? Yes.
Bounce back to leading the league again? I doubt it.

Those guys were ALL over-achieving except for Carey Price. ALL of them. If they make it back and play well in the playoffs they will get worn down and fail.

We'll see. Better to end hot than start hot, I know....but that team is built completely differently from what I have seen than most of the other East.
We'll see. I really think it has to do with who they get matched up with in the first round, really do. A little confidence would do that team wonders.

The Habs fail. I love it.

Alexander Ovechkin needed a 3 goal performance to finish the season with 50 goals and he did it. Simply one of the best players of all time. He has multiple 50 goal seasons in an era which simply doesn't have 50 goal scorers. If this guy played in 1983 he would have scored 150.

I would love to see Washington win The Stanley Cup.
