I bought my first MIM Strat in January of 95, and I think it was a little over $300. I got it at a local shop though, not GC, so I may have overpaid a bit for it. Loved it though, played it at a show that very night.

I just pulled the trigger on one as well. I figure I can unload my Valve Jr. for the same $99; the PicoValve definately seems like an upgrade.

I really didn't NEED one either but it gives me a versatility in tone beyond my AC4TV8 while still keeping things quietish.

From what I've been reading most of that darkness is the shitty stock tubes. The rest of it is that JCA wired a resistor in the wrong spot. If you connect a resistor of the proper value from the grid to ground, it makes the amp perfect.

For $99 it's worth it to play with. :-P

So, my Picovalve was delivered to my job yesterday (I was off) and my 2x12 (JCA24S) was delivered today. I brought my Peavey Wolfgang Special to work just to test it out to make sure it works. Even with the POS Chinese tubes that come in the thing stock it actually sounded REALLY good. I can't wait to swap some tubes and really get this thing rockin'!

I'm loving mine. I just wish that the Sovtek 6L6GC I had laying around didn't have this GIGANTIC base which makes it not fit.
