Food Jam: The best and worst pizza: the chains we live for and those we don't.

We usually get Valentinos here in Orange. I think my least favorite pizzas uin recent memory are Pizza Hut and Shakeys,.

I actually can't eat Domino's at all, because of the red pepper in the sauce. I rarely get pizza from a non-local place anyway, but that's one of the reasons I rarely eat red sauce pizza.

We have some decent pizza but nothing groundbreaking around here. Even bad pizza is good to me, though :embarrassed:

I used to love little cheesers but I probably haven't had any in 10 years. Never seem to be in the mood.

When we first moved to Redondo Beach, CA 22 years ago, we had a great place called Bono's (no U2 relation) pizza. The owner sold the place 3-4 years later and it went downhill. When we bought our place in Long Beach, we were visiting Numero Uno. They have a really good pizza and then they were gone about 5 years later. So far the best place in my area is a place called "Me and Ed's" which is about 2 miles east. That pizza is awesome!

...I NEVER go to a chain restaurant for pizza...I got to Big John's Pizza...the original one...the guy that runs it, Red, has a son who runs "Big John's II" a city over, and his daughter runs a hoagie/pizza place called "Pizza Queen"...the original store has the best...typical easy coast pizza...I like it plain with just a lil' extra cheese...its more difficult to go wrong with the classic version...

When I was much younger, the only pizza chain restaurant around here was Pizza Hut. The pies were surprisingly good, and the waitresses were invariably hot. The best deal they had was a 2 topping pie with a pitcher of beer for 10 bucks. With soft drinks it was 7.50. Not too bad if you ate it in the restaurant, but take out could be a crapshoot. NO delivery here in those days either. You had to order, then go fetch. For awhile, they were running a ''meal in 15 minutes'' promotion. The deal was, when you called they had 15 minutes to bake your pie or it was half price. They used to roll out the dough kinda thick, and with the amount of sauce they used it got soggy if the dough was undercooked..... like what happens when you cook the thing for only 15 minutes. They lost a bucketload of business with that stunt. Nowadays there is only 1 Pizza Hut left in town and they suck like every other chain.

Thankfully, in my neck of the woods there have always been mom & pop pizza & sub shops making good if not great pizza. Seems that most places around here were started by Greek families and now their kids are running them. Menus have gotten bigger, and prices are reasonable depending on where you go.

if it comes from a chain pizza store, it fucking sucks.

the end.

I agree with Howie on this. If you're talking about chain pizza, grocery store pizza or any pizza that isn't made in the NY/Philadelphia metro area. Then you are not talking about pizza.

That would be like saying Taco Bell is great Mexican Food.

Even shitty pizza in Italy beats the arse off excellent pizza anywhere else I've tried. Absolute troof. :thu:

I actually don't mind Pizza Hut once in a blue moon and Domino's has that weird McD's thign where you get a hankering for one once every year or so and then instantly regret i when you remember how terrible it is.

We have a Papa John's somewhere on the other side of town but I'm not going over there just to try it.

Well, we have lots of good pizza in NY and NJ. Lots of Italians are here, so we manage to pop out a decent pie now and again. ; )
