Food Jam: The best and worst pizza: the chains we live for and those we don't.

Chains never get the crust right. Always comes out thick and rubbery, even on their so-called thin crust pizzas.

There used to be this wonderful pizza place near my home when I was a kid, with a brick oven, a big glass window so you could watch the chefs toss the dough, and an old man who bashed out standards on the piano. God, I miss that place. Everything now is conveyor belts and cardboard boxes.

This is my go to place:

But depending on what part of town I happen to be in these are top notch as well:

Aurelios:

Or Lou Malnatis for Deep Dish:

Or if I'm over by that craptastic shithole knows and New Sox/Cominskey Park I'll hit one of these:

Connies on Archer Avenue:

Or the famous Home Run Inn pizza:

Or in a pinch Giordanos is pretty good.

And there are probably hundreds of great joints I don't even know about.

I've never had it shipped because my house is like 20 minutes from the original Malnatis in Lincolnwood. :cheese:

That place is right across the street from my favorite Lebanese restaurants. Another good pizza place in that area is Marie's on Lawrence. Great thin crust. I haven't been to the real Home Run Inn in over 30 years. Strange considering that I don't live too far from there. There's lots of good pizza in Chicago without having to resort to chain pizzas.

Here in Mt. Pleasant, Papa Johns gets my vote. One of the chains I avoid for political reasons. I have always thought Pizza Hut was vile, and Chucky Cheese is important to avoid for more than just the pizza.

Man, I knew I should have went to Chicago with my wife a few weeks ago  I thought a few days by myself would be great, but I ended up doing a bunch of shit around the house and didn't relax much at all. I should have went with her and asked you were to go
