Food Jam: The best and worst pizza: the chains we live for and those we don't.

Round Table does it for me. Love the Maui Zowie. I live in the Orange County version of Stepford. Everything is a chain. No independents of anything anywhere.

My New York friends have always said I haven't had Pizza till I've had NY Pizza. Someday I will make it to NY and get to try some.

Lucky us, we have more of the independants here in Long Beach/Lakewood.

Hey tgk, I don't how far you are from Westminster but there is a pretty good place there called Perry's. Check it out if you are near there.

Testicle Pizza.

That's nuts.

The best I ever had was in Chicago (pizza, that is). Even better than South Jersey where Mrs. Tig is from. I haven't been to Italy in over 30 years, so I don't remember how good it was there.

Most chain pizza makes me feel ill. Houston has the original Carrabba's restaurants which make some fine pizzas. I don't mean the chain locations, but the original places owned by Johnny and Damian. They have recipes that they didn't sell to the chain.

pizza snobs

papa johns is just fine

The thing I always notice about chain pizzas is how sweet they are....the sauce & crust always taste like they have a ton of sugar in them. The last time I had something from one of the chains, it was Papa Johns. Not bad..not great.

there was a pizza joint named John's Pizza up by my last place and Papa John's moved in next door to them. i'm sure the confusion from ordering between the two is what drove John's Pizza out of business. they had really great heroes. kinda sad.

Even bad pizza is good to me, though :embarrassed:

This.

We have a couple of really good mom and pop places but when it comes right down to it, I have rarely said that any pizza sucks. I appreciate the difference between a good place and a chain but none of it sucks.

^^^ The man knows what he's talking about

In the greater Chi area, there are a few "chains" that emerged from the original restaurants. My local fave is Rosati's as far as bang-for-buck is concerned. I also like Connie's on Archer.

Best in Chicago IMO is the original UNO (and Due across the street). The UNO chain, however, has a horrible imitation of the original.

...where is she from?...

Salem and Pennsville. I like South Jersey. Plenty of trees and farms, so it feels more comfy than up North. She took me to Cowtown, Wildwood boardwalk, Ft. Mott, etc.

...yea, its an entirely different beast that the north...when people use jersey/pollution/traffic/urban sprawl/crime in the same sentence, I always make sure to clarify that they are referring to North Jersey...

...I thought about driving over to Fort Mott today, they were recreating the attack of Fort Sumter, with Fort Delaware subbing for Sumter, and Fort Mott being...whatever the rebs were shooting from...I was too tired though...

That reminds me of one of my favorite lines from a movie.

Sex is kinda like pizza. When it's bad, it's still pretty good.

My favorite pizza around here is Mellow Mushroom and Moon River Pizza. Moon River is kind of a hike for me, but it is pretty good.

I had pizza last night with my bud. It was was excellent. Sausage, chicken, and mushrooms!
