Dig it! The “ultimate” pedalboard rebuild thread.

After last night I’m rethinking things. I kind of like keeping the Sparkledrive as a dedicated lead sound. Part of me wants a second spark mini to be able to switch in and out as programmed boosts instead of needing to hit two buttons with the one I have after the ES-8. I think I still have an open loop or two on the ES-8 and I don’t think I’m bothering with a compressor for the time being. I use the spark with my clean sound quite a bit, too.

Definitely putting the Dirty Shirley on Reverb today, though. It’s pretty pointless now that I have the Revival drive.
If you haven’t seen it, check out the Super Sweet by Xotic. The most dial-in-able boost I’ve seen in a small format. Didn’t work for what I needed, but may do the trick for you.

I actually ordered a second Mini Spark. I already know how it sounds and I know I like it. Plus, not being adjustable is kinda nice. I mess with things too much.

I brought the board and ran it straight into the PA for classes tonight. The studio has QSC k10 speakers in every room and most venues we play in have the k12’s so I thought it would be good to work on my sounds there while playing with my students. By the end of the night I had a few sounds that I didn’t hate.

A little housekeeping and a second Spark Mini. My old one had a lot of miles on the button so I moved it into a loop to use for pedals that need a little boost like my Phase 90 or for my lead sound (which for the time being is the Sparkledrive).

for my main bank the sounds are currently:

  1. Clean (little delay and verb)
  2. Em-Drive - louder and slightly overdriven with a little delay and verb
  3. Revival Drive - usually on the valve rectifier side with medium gain. The silicon rectifier is currently set pretty heavy.
  4. Revival Drive and Em-Drive stacked
  5. H9 Synth
  6. Lead - Sparkledrive MOD and Spark Mini stacked
  7. Phase 90 and Spark Mini stacked
  8. Chorus from the Mobius.

I should mention that I have other less generic sounds on the bank above and below this one. Those banks are kinda screwed up at the moment but this will get me through tomorrow and then I can fix the other stuff.

Check in video. Still not happy with the Revival Drive on its own, but I'm attributing that to the fact that I'm still learning it:

What are you currently using the Mobius for? In your list I only see if for chorus.

Chorus, Flanger, tremolo and rotary speaker. I can survive with just the chorus tonight and the song I use the flanger on tonight I can turn on manualy.

Ok, that makes sense. I was wondering why you still had the Mobius if you were just using the chorus.

I had a gig tonight in a small Restaraunt with The Automatix. I was fairly happy with my sounds at the lower volume in context. It’s strange having to figure out what sounds I use for what songs now that everything is different.

I see the iridium has the bass maxed out. Is it lacking? I’ve almost pulled the trigger twice this week but I’m worried it’s going to be too loose sounding. How punchy/chunky is the Plexi setting?

I actually wasn't using it last night (really mall room so I didn't need it in the PA) but I'm still trying to dial that in with the Revival Drive. The knobs aren't anywhere that I would normally have them to play through.

I made some adjustments on my Thursday night gig, woke up this morning and tweaked a few more knobs and now I think I have this worked out. I'm posting this here just so that I know where to find the settings in case my phone and computer both disappear.

Next I need to work out how this sounds with the Iridium. It sounds good with the amp, so I need to work with the Iridium side of things.

Btw, that pedal was supposed to be for my small teaching board but I guess I’ll have to look into another one once I sell what it’s replacing.

Well, I played through the whole rig with the Badger 30 tonight while giving lessons and I’m pretty happy. I still have a lot of detail work to do but the basic sounds are pretty good. Both the Revival Drive and the 45 cal are super touch sensitive and there are a ton of sounds just in the volume knob of my guitar.

The sounds go Iridium clean->Origin on the vale rectified sound -> J Rocket 45. Cal, wash and repeat. I'm playing my telecaster. I should do another clip with the Les Paul.

Manic depression at the end is the revival drive on the silicon rectified side. I think it's still set up to sound like Jimi's marshall. At the very end (about 2:20) there is a crazy loud boost, which I apologize in advance for.

the J Rocket pedal is really there to be my lead sound but it's supposed to be a JTM 45 marshal in a box so I thought I'd play it for the comparison.

The whole thing still isn't exactly like the sound of this stuff through my amp, but it's getting better.

As I listen to it, the low end on the revival drive is killer. You can tell the 45 cal because it gets kinda smaller. Still good for a solo sound on my cover gig, though. It should cut the way I need it to without sounding too different.
