That Seedy Table In The Dark Corner Where The Reprobates Gather

Oh, right. Bummer.

So, I think Imma go ahead and sell the Hawk to keep an eye out for a Manta. That way I won't have to scramble when I find one... I was planning on re-wiring this weekend, so that'll save me some hassle.

Looks like used Revs don't sit around long.

Hmm. Looks like a Wilkinson roller bridge for the casino is pretty cheap. I'm gonna be interested to see how necessary it is. Bigsbys don't travel that far.

So, relics.

Generally speaking, I have no problem with them, as long as the finish work is left to professionals. I think that's what it is, a finish option, that also has the benefit of looking cool, feeling great, and provides an incentive to play a guitar and not worry so much. I never purchased one though, until recently with the Fano. It's really neat, and I have no problem with the practice, nor do I think that players/purchasers of relics are posers or wanna-be's. In fact, the origins of the art are actually pretty neat and have to do with restoring old instruments, and not actually creating new ones to look old.

HOWEVER...

What. The. Fuck.

This is a total fucking fail. Anyone who buys this should really reconsider their priorities not only in relation to guitars, but in other, more important life choices.

My original plan on my tele was to lacquer over the shellac for some added wear resistance, but I'm beginning to think I may leave it bare. It's sooooo soft and feels really good.
That shit will relic in no time.

At least it woulda made a little fucking sense. Seriously. Take a guitar that was actually set on fire, and recreate that. I would have no problem with it. I just can't get over this piece of copy:

"reproducing the unique features of a 1961 Strat and made to look like it had been set afire in sacrifice to the guitar gods at some point."

Seriously? Fucking seriously?

I always get so irritated at people that are put off by relics to the point where they go on tirades about them, as I don't really see the big deal with a tasteful relic, and anyone who calls someone else a poser or whatever probably hasn't graduated from the 4th grade.

But with this one, I just don't know what to say.

Yep, if if looks good and feels good, why not? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

People have been using those same techniques on furniture forever. No biggie to me and I think some look really cool.
Personally, I wouldn't pay someone to do it...I prefer my guitars to look all shiny and stuff, but it's all good.

You're totally right on the firestrat. That's just dumb.

Now, that dude who sells on Destroy All guitars...the barncaster and all that. He had one that had some burn treatments that looked good. It was kinda part of the burst or something. I like that one.

To me though, that's a different animal. He creates unique pieces, as close to art as they are instruments, with neat stuff, found objects, and cool distressing techniques. Fender took an amazing Custom Shop reissue and lit the fucking thing on fire. To me, that's just nuts.

Cliff at DAG is awesome by the way. One of my trips down to Winston I'm going to stop in and play some of this stuff. I went though him to buy my amp, and he told me just to let him know when I was coming, and he'd have whatever I was curious about available to play.

Shit, I may have to meet you there.

But, I'm sure there's some dipshit collector out there who'll buy the damn thing. Kinda like a troll thread...I keep hoping if you ignore them long enough, they'll go away, but somebody keeps bumping them up.

Yeah, someone will definitely buy it, no question about that. If people bought reverse V's, they'll buy this.
